Has anyone tried the Curves weight loss program and exercise program? Or just the exercise program? I have had weight issues for several years, but since I had my thyroid removed I am gaining weight like crazy and now have been diagnosed with insulin resistance. My endocrinologist recomended Curves. Also, if anyone is willing to share, how much does it cost?

I was a Curves member for 10 months, I just cancelled my contract due to medical issues with my knees. I paid $39 a month for their services and that was for unlimited use of the club. I didn't participate in their food plan because I was already a WW member, but I do know a few people who were successful at it.

One of my friends has a thyroid issue and she goes 5 days a week and says that what works for her. My suggestion is to stop by your local club to get a free tour and see if they would offer you a week free to try it out.

Sorry that you are going through these health isues.

As I understand Curves is good for a beginner/entry level person. Keep in mind that if you are working their machines that you must make yourself put in a lot of effort in order to see good results. If you explore another option the same is true.

I have never tried Curves and therefore cannot speak directly to that. What I can offer is that any movement is good. If Curves turns out to not be your best option I would recommend walking as movement and then listing everything that you eat calorie journaling. Do you have someone who you are able to work with to advise you how many calories you should be having daily? Once you get that info you are armed and ready!

Perhaps you could explore some exercise DVDs at your local library too.

Hope that others who have been members of Curves can help here too.

I have worked out at Curves a lot as my mom is a member, so I get in with her because the owner says it is ok. I am actual an intermediate/advanced fitness level, but I find that if I wear my heart rate monitor and make sure I push myself hard enough (and I have to push hard) that I can get a good workout there, but it's not easy.

For my mom it is great. She is very overweight and has COPD, so it would be very hard for her to exercise otherwise. I also like that there is someone there all the time monitoring her. She has had ups and downs with Curves and has not lost a significant amount of weight, but when she works out there 3xs a week and monitors her food intake, she looses about 1 pound a week.

I'm going to get the college summer pass for Curves for $120 starting this summer. I will be working about an hour or so away from where I live, but about 15 minutes away from where my mom lives, so 5 days a week she we pick me up from work and we will head over to Curves to work out. I figure it is a good way to spend some time with my mom and get exercise in too! :)

Give Curves a try--most of the time they will give you a week free--that should be enough time to see if it fits you.
