Currently at the Fort...a couple of observations

this is our first time at the fort. I really do like it here. We have two cabins.

A couple of things. The decor and theming, while very unique from other resorts, still feels like disney to me. It's obvious we are in a large place that has a continuous 'theme' which is not something you see at a chain hotel. So yes, it still feels like disney.

The good? The cabin is roomy and comfortable. Lots of towels. Big coffee maker, the murphy bed is fun! We can lower it with one finger, LOL!

The bad? The skillet! Oh my gosh! We have this darn metal skillet, one skillet, and no matter what we do to preheat, grease it, preheat then grease, pray over it...nothing....EVERYTHING sticks. Even bacon! Ugh. If I'd known, I would have brought one from home! Take note! :cool2:

The curious: We have a dairy free need and while the chef came out and said all the vegetables were safe. He didn't seen to understand the seriousness of this request and just said all meats were safe except salmon and all vegetables were safe except the mac and cheese. Um, no...we could pick out ones with butter. as in the beans were in butter and others too.

More good: The CMs here have been great!

The surprising: How clean our cabins have been!

This place is huge! So far, we do love it here! :thumbsup2

More to come...but for now, just some thoughts.

That's a shame about that skillet...I just knew that praying over it would work. We had one similar at home a few years ago that would not cooperate for anything. We bought another one in a shop up in the Smokies and that thing will not stick to any food. I have no idea why the difference, but it is there.

I use the old one out at the shop for changing the oil in the mower and 4 wheeler...but even that sticks to it.

Glad to know everything else is going well for you guys. Have fun and update when you can.

Nice report, Hisgirl.

Try calling Housekeeping and asking for another skillet but a NON-stick one. They do respond to special requests if they can fulfill them.

Glad your enjoying your stay! I say skip the skillet and grill out on your porch instead! You can buy what you need at The Meadow Trading Post . :)

Good tip about calling and inquiring about a different skillet! Well, regarding grilling, I don't think working up some Kingsford charcoal to scramble some eggs at 7 a.m. would be the best way to wake up. ;), Haha!

Hisgirl,

RV'ers and campers do it all the time there! Matter of fact, a huge Sunday breakfast the morning before check out is one thing I always look forward too. Complete with biscuits made in our little toaster oven! The smells around the campground in the morning and night will make your mouth water!

I am sure everyone has a different way of cooking out here, but unless we are eating at a Disney restaurant or snack bar...all of our meals are either microwaved or grilled outside at our site. :) Disney has the nicest covered outdoor grill at the Premium sites that I have ever seen. Nice not have to pack our grill like we have to do at some campgrounds. :)

So we're a few more days into our trip and I have a few more observations/tips/curiousities....

We took the bus a few times. It leaves from FW and goes to MK...then coming back, we have to take a bus to WL, then take another bus from WL to FW.

It took a solid hour yesterday...so back to the boat for us. I've been impressed how quick the boat gets to MK and there always seems to be a boat right there at dock, or coming soon.

So...getting to the boat, we drive the golf carts. When we return late afternoon, or evening...oftentimes, it has rained. A tip...bring a towel and leave it in the cart to wipe down wet seats.

Yesterday, after returning home, we noticed several windows were unlocked in our two cabins. We knew for absolute certain they had been locked. Not sure what to think about this, but we locked them back again. :confused3

I honestly was excited about all the activities the young grandkids could participate in here at FW. So far, every day has been spent covering the parks and we're still not done. We've hit the pool once. With early sunset, we're losing a lot of 'fun' hours. I now understand the ten day trips folks take. :thumbsup2

The Trails end breakfast buffet is really quite nice. The selection was ample and we were impressed with most of the quality. I love how disney recycles all the day old bread by offering bread puddings in various forms in so many meals. I just wish they would make them a bit more moist...and possibly have just a wee shot of whiskey in the evening puddings. ;)

That's all for now. Off to bed and one more day touring. :goodvibes

The sauces that accompany the bread pudding usually can moisten them nicely :)

We love the Trail's End buffets - breakfast is just about perfect and dinner is the best food and best deal on property.

Glad you are enjoying the cabins and noticed all the theming/continuity. It's awesome, you get used to it and don't even notice there's music playing everywhere!

We LOVE the cabins. As a big family, two of these suits us perfectly. One of the best things about them, we take for granted....letting the kids play outside. You know, in any other resort, you have to find a playground, or go to the pool. At the cabins, you can just shoo the kids out the front door while the adults hang on the deck and they have a blast exploring. Second best is the daily boat rides to MK. Buses...well, they're no fun no matter where you are. So just do MK every day, like we do!

We also love the Trails buffet, but if I understand what you said about the bus, it sounds like you got off the bus at WL and got on another to go to FW? You should have just stayed on the first bus as it continues on to FW. It just drops off the folks who pay more for their rooms than we do first.

I agree about the bus statement. That is indeed what we did...many times. For some reason though, the driver told us we had to get off and take a different bus. That was a bad bus day. Maybe due to monorail issues...
