Current DVC Valet parking policy

Can someone clarify the current DVC policy regarding complementary valet parking at other DVC resorts? We stay at OKW and always have a rental car. Can we drive to Boardwalk, Grand Floridian, Contemporary and valet park for free? Do we need dinner reservations to qualify? It seems this "benefit" has been on and off and I'm trying to get some guidance on what the current policy is.

Free valet parking for DVC members ended in 2009.

Tables in Wonderland used to have a free valet component, but that program no longer exists.

You may have difficulty merely self-parking at some resorts unless you have a dining reservation. Resorts like BoardWalk, Contemporary / BLT and Poly are often targets for guests who want to avoid a theme park's designated parking lot and gain easier access. Their parking lots aren't designed for that sort of capacity, and security will typically turn you away if there's no dining reservation or other obvious reason for being there.

You’ll have to pay valet regardless of resort or dining reservation.

There used to be a policy that once you paid one valet fee you could valet at any other valet around the World all day. I don’t know if they still honor that. Someone more schooled that I could probably answer that.

The only free valet parking is for those with handicap parking credentials.

That's probably the most common recipient of free valet, but free valet is also included with a Victoria & Albert's reservation. Additionally, certain affinity groups get free valet as well, but not DVC or AP.

Just to reiterate and make clear what @tjkraz said: some resorts may not let you visit at all without a dining reservation or a room number + name of a guest staying there. Valet and self-parking, for any price, may be prohibited.

Contemporary, Grand Flo, Poly, Beach Club, Yacht Club, BoardWalk, and possibly Riviera are likely to be the strictest as they can most easily be used as parking for the parks. You may be visiting the resort itself, but a history of others misusing resort parking means you should not depend on being able to visit the resort this way.

If you don't have a dining reservation or a friend staying at one of them, I'd suggest accessing these resorts via other ways (walking from a park, Monorail, Skyliner, boat, etc.)

You have been very lucky then. The valet is NOT run by Disney, so no free valet . It has been like that for over 7 years.

Valet parking at any Disney resort at WDW, including DVC resorts, is not free to DVC members (with the exception of handicaps). It currently costs $33 (plus tip) for daily valet parking at a Disnrey resort that has the service. (Free DVC valet parking disappeared in October 2009.) Otherwise, unless there has been some recent change I am unaware of, the valet parking rules are follows:

1. If you have valet parked at one resort for a day, you can, for no extra charge other than tip, valet park the same day at any other Disney resort that has valet parking. That you have valet parked is indicated on your magic band.

2. The restrictions applicable to regular parking at a resort for those not staying at the resort, such as a three-hour limit rule and needing some kind of reservation to park at a resort, are inapplicable to valet parking. You can valet park at a resort and then just go to a park.

If you already have valet parking at the resort at which you are staying, you should have no problem getting into another resort by just flashing your band to the gate guard and telling him you are going to valet park. If you do not already have valet parking at the resort at which you are staying, you could face issues getting into another resort by just telling the guard you are going to valet park, either because the the gate guard is unfamiliar with the valet parking policy exception to regular parking resort rules, or because the guard cannot confirm that you will actually valet park. Thus, it can be helpful before attempting to enter to actually have a reservation somewhere at the resort, e.g.,valet park there and have breakfast and then go to a park.
