Curious...are there a lot of gay CM at Disneyland??

I see no evidence that any poster is intolerant. I think people often get confused and think that Disney sponsors Gay days. I have seen many irate posters that Disney didn't listit under their "event section"!

Gay Days are not in any way, shape or form sponsered by Disney or Disneyland. They orginazation that puts on Gay Days are allowed to rent out space (Big Thunder BBQ, ballrooms, hotel space) like any other large event (conventions, MouseAdventure, etc...).

You make it sound like its a crime to be gay!
I have never really noticed any gays working at DL or DCA, but then again, I'm not looking. I work with a couple of gays, have quite a few gay friends both male and female and the best man at our wedding was gay.To me they are just people.

No no no. I'm just tired of people assuming that Gay Days are sponsered by Disney and then thinking Disney is a horrible company for not "warning people" about Gay Days. I wanted to point out that Disney does not sponser Gay Days and any group who wants to have an event there can, if they are willing to pay for it.

I attend every gay day and mini gay day, wearing red to support my gay friends. I wish Disney would sponser it just to annoy all the people who think that gay people should be second class citizens. Now I am :stir:

Sorry, I misunderstood you there WatchinCaptKangaroo.
I agree with you about people that think gays are second clas citizens!!!

I have heard that Disney allows Cast members to get health benefits for partners, not just spouses, which might increase the number of people working for the company.

Domestic partner benefits are now very common throughout California and much of the nation. Disney's benefits are not as much as a "draw" as they once might have been.

I am gay and recently spent three days at Disneyland. I did not notice a disproportionate number of gay cast members, even with my eagle-eye Gaydar. ;)

Yep there are lot's of gay people working at disneyland. And I think they are great. I have never been treated bad by them and as a matter of fact I have had some of the BEST service in the park and at dining locations by a cm who is gay. And I swear they have a peter pan there who is gay. He is the best ever, he played with all the kids and was totally into character just a lot more flamboyant, he was so much fun! I think the Gay men are way more into character at all times, and they are the happiest people in the park. I love em!

I have worked with at least 3 Gay managers, and they are tops on my list! These guys, especially the most recent 2, made the best managers for me (in my opinion). I am from Phila, so I've known plenty of gay men & women.

I don't know if they have these at DL, but here at WDW we have new red MM ears!

:sunny:

Does it matter that much with whom the CM that helps you in and out of the vehicles shares his/ her bed with at night? Does it make that much of a difference? As long as they are nice and friendly... And about the sunglasses they wear: it are not onle the supposed "gay CMs" that wear those so-called "wrong" items, many of the guests wear the most "wrong" items ever known to mankind!

And please, don't always link catholics with the narrowminded. I am catholic, and I am pro-a lot of things. (I guess living in a liberal country where about everything is legal helps, but still) You want to kow what things? Pm me, I am not quite sure the list belongs on this thread.

Sorry, I am not gay, and I don't want to flame anyone, these kind of posts just make me mad.

Sorry if I've offended anyone with my OP...certainly didn't mean to show any disrespect...just asking out of pure curiousity (and maybe from a bit of a naive point of view since I live in a small city with a very low number of gay people). Again, meant no harm to catholics, homosexuals, etc. Hope it will die there and not be taken incorrectly or dramatized.

There is a great deal of gay Cm's in the Entertainment department, Mostly the ones who do the parades and stuff. In other departments, im not too sure. I have nothing against them, they're really nice!

I read somewhere that there is a really high percentage of homosexual employees at Disneyland...is this true? I wonder why...

I'm not homophobic, but just curious??

Taking your post at face value (many people who ask your question have an ax to grind), it is statstically likely that any employer which offers domestic partnership benefits in an urban setting will have a higher percentage of gay employees than the country at large. An entertainment, travel, or customer service industry will also have a higher percentage. Combine the two (Disneyland in Anaheim), and you answer your question. As to why - many, many different factors I'm sure.

Now, how you can tell? I think one needs to be careful of stereotypes. First, Disney controls very tightly what CMs wear so clothing is no give-away. In environments where most of one's outfit is dictated, people tend to take greater liberties with what latittude they have for accessories or hairstyles to epxress individuality; both straight and gay. Finally, having grown up in a small town and lived in urban areas all my adult life, I can say that urban teens and young adults of all sexual persuasions are more flexible with their styles than anybody, straight or gay, I grew up with. Body piercings (ears and elsewhere) is only one example. They mean nothing anymore when it comes to sexual orientation.

Finally, if you're curious - do what anybody does who's curious about a different culture. Start talking with people who live in that culture to learn even more about it. Only then can you begin to undetstand and truly appreciate how similar most people are.

Cheers,

I worked at WDW awhile back and there were a lot of gay CMs that I worked with.

Not to stereotype, but I will anyway.......they were the nicest people! :teeth:

Maybe they are more sensitive to people because of the prejudices they receive, but they were always the best to work with. I don't care who one sleeps with at night, God loves ALL his children. :grouphug:

In all honesty, does it matter how many gay people work at Disney? They are going to give you the same respect and great service as any other cast member!

By the way, I'm as straight as can be, I just have a lot of gay CM freinds! :thumbsup2

It might matter if one was gay, wanted to work at Disneyland and was feeling out whether Dis was a good employer. Some companies are more tolerant than others.

We discovered that our honeymoon coincided with a HUGE gay day. It was very romantic. The park was full of couples holding ands and kissing and being silly. There was something really special about being in the park with that much affection being expressed.
