Curious - Are Renters More Willing to Book 7-11 months in Advance?

Are more Renters willing to book during the Home Resort Priority Window?

  • I'm an Owner - I've noticed requests to book before 7 months are increasing.

  • I'm an Owner - Still getting mostly requests to book 7 months or less from arrival.

  • I'm a Renter - I usually book more than 7 months in advance.

  • I'm a Renter - I usually book 7 months or less in advance.

  • I'm neither - Just want to see the poll results.

Just curious - it seems to me that more renters are willing to commit/book before the 7 month window opens. Wondering what those of you who own are experiencing, and the thoughts of those of you who rent from them.

I am an owner now that doesn't rent out my points but I did rent once before buying. I wanted the week after Thanksgiving and did my homework first. We wanted AKV and this was prior to Kidani opening so I knew I had to find someone and have the points before the 11 month window to get what I wanted. I would hope more people that are renting are doing their homework as well.

Hi there,

For my upcoming trip I have rented 2 different sets of points (BWV and AKV) going through two two different brokers.

I rented at about 9 1/2 months, but had I known about the rental option earlier, I would have started making enquiries before the 11 month mark. I am ecstatic that I managed to secure a Boardwalk View Studio during the F&W Festival as I'm aware that even at 9.5 months I had left it pretty late.

From the perspective of an international traveler who is paying so much to travel across the world, I am happy to commit early to get exactly what I want.
Once I've booked the costly airfares, I am pretty much committed to making the trip regardless of where I stay. It was therefore not much more of an extra gamble to book my accommodation shortly after booking my airfare.

I also like to iron out any potential problems as far in advance as possible. No one wants extra stress right before their vacation. I know DVC renting is not 100% secure, but there is security that comes from knowing that everything is sorted well in advance.

We rent and look for the 7 month. With 7 month we can boo any resort and since we require payment in full 7 months dosn't make guss unhappy with full payment. Renting since 2004 without a signal problem.

I am an owner who has only rented to friends and family. I just found this topic interesting...was curious to see the poll results. I was thinking of renting HH points for our Aug 2014 trip since we don't really have enough of our HH points for the stay that I want (or I may book some of the stay with our HH points and then try to add on to front or back end at 7 months out with our OKW points). I would want to rent/book at 11 months out (got to book close to the 11 month window to be sure and get something at HH). I book a lot of trips well in advance, so I have no problem renting points that far out.

you don't have to add a poll option "neither - i just want to see results", there is a link below the poll "view poll results" which does not register a vote.

You need to add, I trade into through RCI and book 7 or more months out.
I think RCI trades have very little impact on what an owner has available to book at her home resort, so that's why it isn't included.

It seems that my home resort, BWV, is filling up more quickly during the home resort priority period than it used to - for the times & booking categories that I usually book, anyway. I am "postulating" that this is due to more renting before the 7 th month window opens.

That might also explain the increased interest in BWV contracts.

I am an owner who has never rented before but I've noticed booking at the 7 month window is more difficult but I tend to book during key times (marathon weekends). It is unfortunate that my home resort is never a race host resort or else I would book 12 months out.

I've been renting my BCV pts to the same renter the last several years and he always books around the 10/11 month period.

it could also be that too many extolled the unique attributes of the BWVs too often (self included).
we usually book BW view right around the 11 month mark for our oct F&WF trip. at a couple of weeks into the 11 month last year, we had to waitlist almost half our vaca (thanks, hurricane sandy:(). the WL still hasn't come thru.
we book our may F&GF at exactly 7 months every year (using BCV & SSR points), and have had to WL the past 2 years.

it does appear that BWV in particular has become more and more popular. we have been offered studios at the BCV when there were none available at the BWV (any view). perhaps the BWV booking difficulty can also be attributed to more adults and families with older children going to WDW.

i don't rent out often, but renters do seem more knowledgable about the 7/11, as well as the resorts themselves.

interesting poll :)
