I am booking on January 6th for next December of 2021 for the 50th at BCV for a 6 days. my question is if I book then we determine its still not safe or things just haven't changed can we cancel and I bank my points into 2022 OR can we rent the reservation? Not sure how any of this works just yet

You can cancel and have your points returned to the current use year 31 days prior to check in. 30 days - 1 day the points are placed in holding. You are also able to rent the reservation if you wish.

Banking depends on your use year as you have a deadline of 4 months before it ends to bank.

If you cancel at least 31 days ahead, AND you are still in your banking window you can bank them. Less than 31 days, go into holding. If after your banking window, they will expire at the end of your UY. You can try to rent the reservation/points.

So my 2021 pts i can bank but the ones that I already banked i would lose correct?

The banking deadline for August use years is 31st March, and yeah you can't bank twice. Any points banked into 2021 from the 2020 use year would have to be used by 31st July 2022 or you would lose them.

With an August UY, the Dec trip is in your 2021 UY and still in your banking window so as long as you cancel 31 days or more from check in, all the 2021 UY points can be banked,

If the trip has banked 2020 points, then those will have to be used by July 31st, 2022.

Now, if you had to cancel less than 31 days out, all points will expire July 31st, 2020 and will be in holding status which means they can only be used to book a new reservation 60 days or less from check in, so avoiding that is important,

In terms in renting, yes, you could offer it for rent if you want, To do it on the DIS there are rules, so you’d need to qualify to do it and want to be sure to read those before submitting if you decided to do that.
