I assume you are talking about skycaps, and yes you are supose to tip them. Depending upon what bags we are checking, we usually tip $10-20 for a family of 4. If we have hockey bags to check we usually tip more, they are more work.
Out of all the tips I give on my vacation, this one is the most important to me. I want to be sure the skycap takes good care of my luggage and that it gets on my plane safely!
Oh my.....oops. I had NO idea. I was totally confused when getting out of the car and had never checked in like that. I feel so terrible that I didn't tip him. No wonder he gave me a look when I walked away. Live and learn I suppose. I still feel very bad about that.

You won't be the first that did not know, at least you asked. It is nice that you feel bad (don't take that the wrong way, please) some don't care and some simply refuse to tip.
I am in total agreement with beattyfamily's thoughts and I do tip at least 2.00 per bag.
I tip $3 - $5 per bag. I agree with the others - I want to make sure my bags arrive at my destination On my trip 2 weeks ago, they even put blue "priority" tags on my luggage
