CSR to Hess? Is there any WDW transportaion or need a cab?

We are using DME mostly for the $avings, but if it looks like in the long run it will cost us.....trying to decide our needs. SO:
Pretty much just after bottled water/ milk/ yogurt...gonna be there 10 days...crunching best options...grocery delivery,( but need a $50 minimum + $10 delivery) going to Hess, cab to Gooding's, just use shop at CSR....
a Towncar R/T will run about 110...or 70 O/W...but will have the grocery stop (we don't arrive until about 5 p.m. at MCO. )
I would love to just get a few things at the shop at CSR(milk, yogurt) and mail a package ahead with non-perishable items...mostly breakfast stuff since we will be on free DDP ..but we have never used DDP before and even tho everyone says how much food it is, we still like breakfast or get headaches and get CRABBY ....SO...what options do y'all have for me?

I'd go the easy route - plan to spend a bit more than you would in your neighborhood supermarket and just buy the items at CSR.

You can take a Disney bus to DTD (PI stop) and then walk to the Hess mini-mart. How many cases of bottled water do you want to carry across the DTD parking lot to the bus stop?

I do it many times. We always stop by the Hess station by DTD and grab a couple of 12-packs of soda, and hubby gets a 12-pack of beer. Well worth the time it takes!!

Also, the PI bus stop is right there, it is not a long walk at all from Hess Station to the bus stop.

You take the bus from your (any) resort to Downtown Disney (DTD) and get off at the Pleasure Island (PI) stop.

PI = Pleasure Island. It's also known as the Downtown Disney bus. The bus stops at the MarketPlace and Pleasure Island.

To the OP - how valuable is your time? If it were me, I'd just buy the breakfast things at CSR. And I wouldn't buy everything all at once until you see how the DDP is working. Lots here say that it ends up being too much food and by the end of the trip, no one wants to eat. If that happens, you won't need as much as you may think, anyway.

Finfan: I read on mousesavers.com that CSR charges a fee to hold preshipped boxes. This is what I read:

*Note that while I've heard from dozens of people who successfully shipped non-perishable food items to their hotels and were not charged anything extra, one reader reports being charged a handling fee by the hotel, and I've read rumors to this effect on a couple of discussion boards. It appears this is sometimes an issue at the convention hotels, in particular Coronado Springs, but I don't think it's a consistent problem. You may want to call the hotel in advance to confirm that there will be no extra charges. Be sure to get the full name of the person you speak with!

We had a car so making a grocery run was not a problem. I will tell you that we had left over food. I did packed all non-perishables away in a spare bag and checked it at the airport. There was note that they inspected my bag, but I did not care. With that said, you might consider packing non-perishables in a checked bag.

I wouldnt worry too much, nice little grocery shop onsite - they dont jack up the price of the donuts and the milk isnt that bad.

You can walk to the Hess shop from downtown disney. (Just follow the DME ciggy smokers - it was 26$ a carton there last year. Compared to 55 here in NJ)

I personally opt for the rented car. I find a good deal for the week and dont worry too much about getting here or there. The only time I use the buses is for late nights in the MK. I have gotten stuck in the monorail and boats lines back to the transportation center in the heat one too many times. And your too tired to drive.

Make friends with a mom like me and hop on one of her 'grocery runs' or pharmacy runs (benadryl - cough med) ...

We did this just last week. We were at DTD/Pleasure Island anyway for dinner and a couple shows at Adventurer's Club. Before getting on the bus back to the room, we walked across the street to the HESS station and grabbed some bottled water and sodas. Very easy to do.
