We checked in here on Friday afternoon around 2:30 PM (10/24/03) for 7 nights (checked out 10/31/03). Once again, we checked in immediately, no wait, and our rooms were ready. We were in the Cabana’s section facing the lake/pond and it was absolutely beautiful (we even saw fireworks from our room one night, no idea where they were coming from but they were cool), we were close to both the Pepper Market (food court) and the Big Dig (lol, I’m from Boston area!) okay the Dig Site (pool). The resort was clean, bright and the rooms were comfy and good sized! They had privacy curtains and enough room to be comfortable and not on top of one another. The beds were only doubles but very nice and comfy. I wasn’t sure by the pictures of the rooms in Cabanas that I was going to like the theme here, but I was wrong, it was beautiful. The furniture is really very nice an not as loud as it appears in the pictures. The table and chairs in the room are nice and heavy and the chairs are cushioned and a little wider than the usual, so is the table. Housekeeping was great, kept us supplied to the max with towels, shampoos and soaps (thank goodness because my husband suddenly decided to become a “collector” of some sorts of these trinkets (not the towels!). The Pepper Market was nice (see my restaurant reviews) although the 10% service fee they tack on whether you eat in or out is a little too much in my opinion. The pool was great, it has an awesome slide that the kids loved and the pyramid was fun in the morning when they have the kids sit on it and chant “water water” until it starts flowing down on top of them. The only problem I had with the pool situation was that the slide did not have a lifeguard at the top to control the kids from coming down two at a time right on top of the kids in front of them. My son came down and literally two seconds later these two little kids (who did not know any better and they were not being supervised by their parents) came down and before I could grab my son out of the way they kicked him in the head. The life guard did scold them (about 10 times for running and doubling up and so on) but it could have been avoided if they had someone at the top telling the kids when it was okay to go. Anyway, the spa/hot tub was nice and big and the arcade, ball court and playground at the site were added bonuses. I did not eat at the pool bar, but my dh did get a drink there that was quite “weak” in his opinion (and he’s not a huge drinker). They have a marina here (although the lake is not very big) dh and the kids rented water mice and a canopy boat, they had fun. They also rent Surrey (sp?) Bikes and regular bikes too for those of you that are more ambitious than us, lol. In my opinion, they also had one of the best gift shops, I really liked this shop it had a little bit of everything here. Okay now for the bad part (this is just our opinion) the dreaded buses. Although this did not put a damper on our vacation, it sure did add a bit of stress now and again about these buses. Not so much on the way out, but on the way back, they were awful. Leaving the Magic Kingdom on a Saturday Night and I am not exaggerating here, a bus came every 25 minutes and the queue was packed! All the other resorts (including All Stars) had buses every 5 to 10 minutes and the lines were practically empty. I noticed the Boardwalk because it was right next to ours, had about 10 people at most in line and the buses were definitely about every 5 minutes. People were outraged, literally. They were yelling, and complaining and threatening to “fire off” some letters to Disney. Now, I must say this, I think that Disney did not anticipate the amount of guests that were going to be there and probably just didn’t staff properly, however, by the end of our stay at the CSR, they did get better and they had a woman out at the bus stop at the resort with pen, clipboard and watch in hand clocking and timing the buses. So, my guess is that those people who were threatening to “fire off” the letters, did so and Disney hopped right on it. The other thing was they were not consistent with the way they dropped off and picked up, no big deal, but I think there should have been more consistent. Oh and one other rather uncomfortable situation here in this resort is the golf cart drivers (or people drivers whatever you call them, lol) they drove SO FAST! I came walking out of my building one morning and I could hear this guy at the end of the bridge yelling. Apparently one of the drivers almost hit him and he was ticked to say the least. I felt his pain, because we almost got it one night on the bridge. We were just kind of laughing about the way they drove but when you think about it, it really was dangerous and if you go over to the GF and see how they drive around you really notice the difference. They stop you and say good morning and ask if you need a ride, and so on. At the CSR, they beep and yell for you to get out of the way, lol. In summary, the resort was beautiful, the rooms were nice and comfortable, the service was great, the staff was absolutely wonderful (the food court manager kept teasing my niece about filling her mug with beer, she’s 16, lol), the pool and spa were nice (they have spa services and a health club that I did not check out), the Pepper Market was pretty good and they had a nice gift shop and two arcades. All in all, we enjoyed our stay at this resort.

Thanks for the in depth review. It is nice to see a review cover everything in a fair manner.
We had a similar bus problem on a Saturday night when staying at POFQ. I imagine this has occured at every resort and you just get lucky and hit it. I had never had a problem in all my previous trips. Suffice it to say that on my next trip to WL we had the same problem with the boats on a Saturday night!!!
I am glad you enjoyed CSR. It is a wonderful place to stay.

Thanks for the review. I'm looking at either CSR or CBR in April, and from what I have read on these boards I am leaning a little more towards CSR. Your review is the first I have read though that was negative in regards to the buses. I guess every resort has their off days with transportation :D

I hope I didn't sound too negative about the bus situation because it really didn't put a damper on our vacation and it did get better towards the end of our stay, it was just those first few days and the waiting late at night. This really is a GREAT resort and I miss it already. I would love to stay here again, the staff is so friendly and everything is so nice and clean and new. We try and take everything in Disney with a grain of salt especially because we are in Disney and as much as we want it to, things just can't be perfect.

If you are looking for a moderate, you should definitely give CSR a try, you won't be disappointed.

Have to agree with LoriZH - CSR is a wonderful place to stay. We stayed in the cabanas section as well and found it convenient to get to the various parts of CSR. We liked the Pepper Market too, but was surprised that they automatically charged the gratuity. I'd rather have the choice to tip.

LoriZH and all other CSR guests...they is not a 10% gratuity charge for food taken out of the Pepper Market. One thing you have to understand is that when you enter the PM, tell the hostess you want a TO GO ticket. This ticket will allow you to get food TO GO and not be charge the 10% gratuity. They are 2 different tickets at the PM.

The buses go in a different order for a reason. This helps if you tired and don't feel like making the walk to El Centro.

Tired? Take the bus to the main building instead of walking
Theme park buses go:
2 - Casitas
3 - Ranchos
4 - Cabanas
1 - El Centro

Downtown Disney buses, as well as Park Exit buses go:
1 - El Centro
2 - Casitas
3 - Ranchos
4 - Cabanas

CSR buses go in this order so that guests can hop on board a theme park bus and take it to the main building. Then you can hop on a DtD bus to get back to your room.

I hope I didn't sound too negative about the bus situation because it really didn't put a damper on our vacation
Not at all :D Waiting for the bus won't be that much of a bother and overall I have heard much better things (length of wait, crowds) about the buses going to CSR than any of the other moderates. I'm going to budget for the occassional taxi just in case.

Hey Buzz2001! First off I want to thank you for hooking me on this resort! Your site is awesome! Second, there is a 10% charge no matter what now, I even called the front desk and inquired about this. I was under the impression that they only charge if you are eating in due to the gratuity, but even if you have the "to go" ticket which they did give me, they still charged the 10%. I had heard they changed the policy but wasn't sure, then when I saw it on my receipt, I called the front desk and they told me "yes" there is a charge for eat in or take out.

LoriZH - thank you so much for the review. I will be going in just a few weeks. :hyper: With all the info on this site, I sometimes double guess myself, but then posts like yours settle me back down. (Not to mention Buzz's site)

Thanks for the heads up on the PM!!! That 10% will be hard to explain to DH & friends, but at least I know in advance!

Glad you had a great time there!

Are you kidding me?!? How can they charge 10% for getting my own food and walking out. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm going to call this morning to verify. Not that I don't believe you Lori but I just want to make sure so I can update my website and write a letter to WDW. I suggest all CSR lovers do the same if this is correct.

ps - thanks for the positive feedback on my website.

Lol, that is EXACTLY what I said Buzz! How can they charge the 10% for walking out with my food, but my receipts show it as well as the phone call to the front desk verifying it. Please let me know what they say, because I have a stack of "to go" receipts with the 10% added that they can simply reverse, lol.

LoriZH...glad you enjoyed your trip. We enjoyed our trip to CSR in September also. Let's just hope that bus thing was a fluke and gets worked out. Maybe it was the crowds. I remember the last time we went to DIs in the month of October the crowds were horrible everywhere! I couldn't believe it. We will never go again in October. We are strictly off-seasons folks. We don't have kids which makes that easier I understand. ;) The freakiest thing about the busses for us was that on three of our trips we were the only two people on there....weird. But then again we stayed in the Ranchos and we rarely ever saw anybody anywhere. Thanks again for sharing your trip. We will now have to try out the Cabana's section! :)

Loved your review. We are going over Thanksgiving and even though I have read other great reviews, it was nice to get a more recent review.

We have had a similar problem with buses at the All Stars, so I think it happens with all resorts at some time or another.

We are really looking forward to our trip as this will be the first time at a moderate. We usually stay at AS Sports or SoG.

Thanks again for a great review.

Thanks for taking the time to type such a great review of Coronado Springs Resort. AS you can see below, we'll be there SOON!
Bobbi:bounce:

I was there at the same time! 10/24 - 10/31!

I noticed the same thing with the buses. It was pretty bad in the beginning and I noticed the same CM standing out there with the clipboard. I think they were trying to fix the situation. I wish they had a person standing at the parks like that. I saw more Wilderness Lodge, YC/BC, and Animal Kingdom Lodge buses go by!

I am also a CSR lover but I don't think I'll be staying there anymore, we joined the DVC on our last trip so we'll be going to Saratoga Springs :bounce: instead. I am going to MISS CSR very much.

I have uploaded a few pics of CSR when I was there, check the DIS community gallery. I'll post more pics soon.

Let's see if this works...

Wow, I can't believe they are charging for take out. I was there mid August and whenever I asked for a take-out ticket I wasn't charged anything extra. Weird. Why this sudden change in policy?

Ducky,
Thanks for the review. This is our first time at CSR and it was reassuring to hear your opinions. We have Connections vouchers for the Pepper Market which include the gratuity, so the automatic 10% won't bother us this time.

Maridw,
We are going over Thanksgiving too - Nov. 22 - 27. We have to spend actual Thanksgiving day with the inlaws

We will be with 2 girls 8 & 11. Hope to see you there.

Maggie

Maggiew - we are going Nov 26 to Dec 3. We are spending Thanksgiving at Garden Grill.

We can't wait. Doing the 20 day or less dance now.
:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
