Day 6- November 17, 2002
I slept in until 9:30 this morning, and then did a very adventuresome thing- I went to breakfast with no makeup!
Down in the food court, I waited in line for my biscuits and gravy, and noticed that a little girl kept getting ignored by the people taking the orders because they couldnt see her. I finally told them that she was next, and handed her the food that they put high up on the counter- theres no way she could have reached it up there! She tried to pay the cooks, but I directed her over to the register. I felt bad for her being all alone, and wondered where her parents were.
Generally, this is the most chaotic I have ever seen a WDW food place. I got the impression that two out of the three cooks didnt speak English very well- they seemed very confused. I heard someone complaining about the setup of the food court, as there was a huge line at the station. This was odd, because the line usually moves so quickly and efficiently, but the staff just didnt have it together this morning and was taking forever with each order.
After eating breakfast, I went to the bus stop with the intention of leaving todays decision of MGM or MK to fate, and would hop on the first bus to come. Neither had come after 20 minutes, so I just hopped on the Downtown Disney bus instead because it was there. Looks like I was going there instead!
As we drove past Aligator Bayou, I noticed that the buildings looked a bit different. Did they paint these recently?
Over at Downtown Disney, I shopped for a while in Marketplace. There was a nice variety of Disney scrapbook stuff at the 2 Rs shop, but since they dont have an AP discount there, I decided to save my scrapbook shopping for World of Disney. There I found a kit that had a sheet of paper themed to each of the parks, some stickers, and some die cuts. I really wish you could buy stickers and papers and such separately, rather than all of the SB stuff being in kits, but at least they have sb stuff now!
The PI shops werent open yet, so I went to Disney Quest to enjoy my new Ms Pac Man addiction. The arcade games are all free, so I got to indulge my addiction to this game to my hearts content, as well as Frogger, a driving game, the Star Wars pod race game, and some others. I wanted to play Pinball, but there was only one machine, and someone was using it. I decided to take the class on drawing Donald. The teacher went way too fast- I liked the one that taught my Mickey class a few nights ago a lot more. My Donald ended up looking as if he had suffered a traumatic head wound, so I decided not to buy my drawing
One of the songmaker booths was open, so I decided to give that a try. Im not sure what I expected this to be, but it was much different from what I had expected, and ended up being one of my favorite things at DQ. You pick a style of song (ie pop love song, country, etc.) and then its almost like Mad Libs, where you pick a word or phrase to complete the song. I think mine involved such classic lyrics as I never knew which fork to use before you- touching
I could have played in that thing all day, and I only wish that the cds were cheap so I could have bought it!
I went up to the Wonderland Café, where I bough a $5.50 piece of vanilla bean cheesecake, which included enough whipped cream to feed a small country. I took it over to one of the computers to play on the internet a bit. I couldnt access my AOL mail at AOL.com from these, so I did the next best thing and came on the DIS, where I took a minute to post a note about the whole Captain Cooks dilemma at the Poly for those who were leaving soon.
I couldnt eat all of my cheesecake at once, as it was quite rich (just a note- as good as it was, the strawberry cheesecake from epcot was still better!), so I got a to go box and went back to the resort to shower, change clothes, and eat leftover cheesecake before Katie came. I was supposed to put olive oil on my henna tattoo to help it darken, but I had been a bit embarrassed to ask the restaurants for it, so I called Katie to ask her to bring some. Friends are handy sometimes!
Katie got a bit lost on her way to PO-R and ended up at the All Stars- Oops! She finally made it over around 6:30, and we were off to Downtown Disney! I should mention that it was COLD tonight, so DD was practically empty. It was a bit too early to eat, so we wandered the West Side for a while, browsing the Virgin Megastore where we found a bunch of music we had never heard of, and then Marketplace where we explored the World of Disney.
We checked in at the Rainforest Café, but they said we had a 45 minute wait, so it was off to the shops to amuse ourselves! We checked out the new Once Upon a Toy shop, which was SO much fun! My favorite thing here was the big Mr Potato Head area where you could build one from a selection of eyes, ears, noses, etc. There is a HUGE selection of toys here!
Next we decided to amuse ourselves over at the RFC gift shop. Now how do a camera hog like myself, and a model like Katie waste time in a store? They take a LOT of pictures! We tried on almost every hat in the store, taking pictures with each one. Im a bit surprise we didnt get kicked out of the store, we were having so much fun!
We got out table a bit earlier than expected, and found ourselves not far from the Mushroom bar in the gorilla room. Katie got a rainbow margarita that tasted like a strawberry daiquiri, so we kind of wondered if they got some drinks mixed up. It was good though, so we didnt complain. We decided to split a Passport to Paradise pizza, which was quite good as well! I've heard a lot of criticism of the RFC, but it really is one of my favorite places in WDW to eat, just because of the atmosphere!
Next we went to Pleasure Island, where I had to introduce Katie to the Adventurers Club! We watched the Radio Fundraiser show first, and then went to wander around the clubs for a bit. They were all TOTALLY empty! There was NO ONE dancing at the Beach Club, and only two couples at 8-Trax! The poor live band had no audience! We went back to the Adv Club for Samanthas show, and the new member induction. The fireworks had been canceled for the evening, supposedly due to the weather, but more likely due to the fact that there was nobody there. After the new member induction, they said Well, you can either stay here for the Hooplah, or go dance with two people at Mannequins! Funny enough, I think that about 70% of the people in PI that night were right there in the Adv Club!
During the Hooplah, Hathaway asked if he could sit at our table. We agreed, and he sat down next to Katie. Soon, he was leaning on his hand, staring at her dreamily, and then running his hand along her leg, and tickling her with his scarf!! Katie was somewhere between amused and freaked out! The funniest part was that the man who usually plays the butler was playing Hathaway, so he wasnt the usual Hathaway type. Finally, Sam called him up to the stage for his part, and he asked if he had to go. Sam sad Yeah, sorry to pull you away from Trixie and Dixie over there! Thus, Katie and I have called each other Trixie and Dixie ever since
After the Hooplah, it was back to my resort, where I was giving Katie a tour of the WDW tv channels when we came across some Japanese soap opera. We were intrigued, and spent most of the next hour coming up with dialogue for them, and creating a story. Finally, Katie had to leave as it was quite late, but she made me swear to let her know what happened in the soap opera, and we have a standing date for my next trip just to watch the Japanese channel.
I enjoyed our leftover pizza, and used the olive oil that Katie brought on my tattoo, and then it was off to bed to rest up for tomorrow!!
