This is why I wish Crystal Palace had continued with table service. I don't find it very sanitary when a utensil's handle is left on the food item after being used by someone else.

Yep, I agree. The serving utensil should be left on a plate or other appropriate surface next to the item at a buffet.

I don't use the utensil. Much better to feel up a few rolls to make sure you get the perfect one. Plus you don't have to worry who touched the utensil before you. Boom, problem solved.

I don't want the stale ones, so I take nibbles until I find a good one. Usually only need to taste three or four when it's busy. When it's less busy, and the turnover is slow, I bring one of the kids with me, and we usually find some together. I've gotten some weird looks, but I try to offer good ones that I've tested to other patrons to show good will.

You are still going to be touching the handle when you pick up the tongs to get the roll. Just dig deep with those tongs and grab a roll from the bottom lol Remember to sanitize your hands after touching the tongs

That's is why I stated that I had wished they continued the table service. Since they didn't, I'm back at Skipper's for the next rip.

What you are describing is a Rain Man type ritual every trip to the buffet. Only 4 minutes till Wapner!

There's a decent chance you might never, ever, ever, want to see everything that happens behind the scenes in the kitchens of the other restaurants you go to.

Luckily COVID is more airborne, if you can call that "lucky".

99% of people are going to grab the tongs at the top. Grab them farther down or bring your napkin with you to handle the tongs. Just because you see something others have used doesn't mean you have to use it the same way.

I enjoy the Golden Corral in our small town. I know everyone since I own a business here so touching the tongs after them doesn't bother me. Now at WDW, Heck no! I was behind a woman at Chef Mickey's that licked her fingers after taking a bite of something on her plate while in line and then grabbed some tongs to get more food. I told the guy carving the ham or whatever meat it was and he quickly switched out the utensils. But, what if I didn't see her? I mean, it really wouldn't matter if I didn't see her but the fact is I did! It was nasty.

People are gross, and sure things may happen in the kitchen or that you don't see that are just as bad, but when you SEE something gross or unsanitary it's unsettling and makes you reconsider your choices.

I wish parents would go up to the buffet with their children at least the ones who are under 10. I was waiting in line to get food on our last Disney cruise, when a young boy in front of me sneezed right at the food without covering his nose/mouth. Gross!

Those super adverse to germs should probably avoid buffets in general. I teach elementary school so tongs on rolls is pretty low on my list of germ concerns.

Covid is pretty much completely airborne, which is why buffets are being re-started. We now know that this kind of thing isn't an issue.

As to whether or not other people are gross, well that's your own decision...
