hi all!

i read the FAQ and the posts here with great interest. in regards to disabled access at attractions (separate entrance on some rides like haunted mansion etc), are they only for those with ecvs and wheelchairs? how about those with a crutch or cane?

i have a hip stress fracture and am ambulating with one crutch. i know many of you will recommend an ECV, but how about days that i just want to pop in without one? should i just go in the regular lines?

thanks in advance!

At the Florida parks, there are exceedingly few rides/attractions with different entrances for ECVs and wheelchairs (everyone is mainstreamed through the main line). This includes the HM line (you can choose to go through the interactive queue or skip the interactive component). Depending on your individual requirements, you may bypass the stretching room, but you may very well be expected by the CMs to wait in line.

Disney's suggestion for mobility issues is to use a wheelchair or an ECV. There is a lot of walking and standing in the parks- many people walk well over 5 miles.

There is no "disabled" entrance to rides/attractions. At a select few, there may be an alternate entrance that will avoid stairs for those in ECVs/wheelchairs or who cannot negotiate steps. However, the alternate entrances are sometimes longer waits than the standby que. If you are using crutches or a cane, that's a visible need and the CMs at each attraction should direct you accordingly - or at least question your ability to negotiate the standby que for that attraction.

Since you mention you might want to just "pop in" I assume you live near WDW and are familiar with the parks. Keep in mind that there is a LOT of walking to get around, not just in lines. I would think that could be extremely tiresome to someone recovering from a hip stress fracture and using a crutch. Disney's response to that is to rent an ECV (or w/c).

Enjoy!

I think you may be underestimating the amount you would walk just to "pop in" to the parks. They are NOT small! Also the length you may walk in lines is more than you might think. There are some lines that are 1/4 mile in and then out again.

The rides aren't right next to the entrance (and sometimes there is quite a walk just TO the entrance.) These parks are spacious!!!
