Hi , im recovering from knee surgery and hope to be able to get round the parks using one crutch .
My question is I cannot stand for long periods so im worried about queuing for a long time. Is there somewhere I could sit?

Also when I visited years ago I remember going into some attractions and there was a preshow area where you had to watch a film and stand the whole time. I struggled with this and sat on the floor but was asked to stand again for safety reasons.
There is no way I could stand now as both knees are bad.

Do all the rides have steps for access as I have difficulties with this as well.
Thanks for any advice.

You should look into renting an ECV or wheelchair the amount of walking involved in doing Disney is about 6 miles have you tried walking that far in one day with the crutch. Most rides do not have steps some rides and shows have pre-shows that you have to stand unless you have an ECV or wheelchair

There's nowhere to randomly sit while queuing. I'd definitely look into a wheelchair, ECV or rollator so you have a seat whenever you'd like.

Unfortunately you will need to get either a wheelchair, ECV, Rollator, or cane with a seat if you want somewhere to sit while in line. With a wheelchair...you don't have to sit in it the whole time...you could walk behind it and push it when you are able to walk and sit when in line or at shows. If that's how you want to use it though then I would recommend a rollator because it's actually MADE for that purpose. A cane with a seat might be a good option too. These things would all allow you access to the handicap accessible area at pre-shows as well.

All of those work well if you insist on walking while you are there (I do...so I'm not implying this is a bad thing)...but you really need to make sure you are up to the amount of walking at Disney. I do much better with my rollator than I ever did with crutches...but the end of the day I was always so sore with the crutches and extremely tired. But any way you slice it...Disney is a LOT of walking. If you cannot manage those distances without causing yourself some serious pain/damage then I would recommend renting an ECV or (if you have someone who can push you) a manual wheelchair.

Disney's answer to this is a wheelchair or ECV, period. or get a rollator.

The movies in question are in Epcot/World Showcase.. Canada and China and yes you must remain standing if not in a WC/ECV. plus any of the pre shows like Muppets.

most rides have a step, some are gentle, some are very steep/deep. all the boat rides definitely and even most other rides have a step into or out of the vehicle.

Disney makes no other accommodations. nor are they required to. so maximize your fast Pass Plus options to limit the amount of standing in line.

I wouldn't recommend attempting the parks just with a crutch. I did it a couple of times with just my cane (I also have chronic knee problems) but was in severe pain each day. A wheelchair worked for me because DH was content to push it. Also, a single crutch will result in an abnormal gait and weight bearing pattern that will probably result in hip or knee pain on your non operative side.

If you don't have someone who can push the chair for you, an ECV or a rollator would be your best option.

I had my knee replacement almost 3 months ago and had great visions of being able to walk the parks during our visit in Feb. But even though I am progressing very well, both my surgeon and physiotherapist have warned me not to even attempt it. So I will rent a chair again, push it as I walk (for as long as I comfortably can) and then DH will push me when needed. And I will always have a place to sit so I can avoid prolonged standing.

Queues and preshow areas just dont have areas to sit. And there are fewer and fewer benches and seating areas in the outside areas to rest on either.

I wouldn't try to navigate the parks on crutch if for no other reason than other guests will try to get around someone who is moving slowly, and the crutch, if not your injured leg will inevitable get kicked.
