WEDNESDAY 2/7 ST. THOMAS
Well, my big day was finally here, the day I had planned this whole cruise around. I, as usual wake up before anyone else. I snuggled in the comfy bed and reflected on the trip so far. All my fears of the cruise never living up to my DIS expectations were gone! So far, the trip exceeded all of my hopes!!
We get up and head to immigration. It was early, but honestly painless! The worst part of the whole thing was the complainers scattered around us.

Come on people….it has to be done…BUILD A BRIDGE …AND GET OVER IT!! I love people who think their time is SO MUCH more important than any of the other 1000 people in the theater…HUMPFF!

We head to Topsiders for breakfast and plot our day. Originally we had planned to go to Coral World on our own. We were all in agreement that we were feeling lazy…had a beautiful beach day in St. Maarten…looking forward to CC!! So…we blew off St. Thomas! (DH and I have been there twice). We hung by the pool most of the morning….ate our way around the deck! DD would disappear and return with ice cream and the biggest smile on her face multiple times. Honestly I don’t know if it was the ice cream or the independence that she was enjoying.
I think this was the day the ice carver was on deck (could be wrong) we watched him in amazement as he created a sailfish display out of a block of ice….awesome!!

(DS was complaining that he was not getting as much exposure as DD during this TR...so here he is...before Alien Boy arrived!!)
DD finds Lily and Kate….and we see her sporadically from then on.
Its time to start prepping for Palo for dinner!! I have this night planned out to the T!!
Original…pre cruise plan:
Kids joyfully go to club while we enjoy Palo at 6pm. Then we will get the kids and go to our regular dinner at 8:30pm so that they get the pleasure of having dinner with mommy for her birthday! Then we have some quality fun time together…until of course they excitedly head back to the club so mommy and daddy can join the
Happy and Laid Back Birthday Celebration!!! Meeting at Sessions then hanging out at 80’s Night!
Here is what actually happened:
Kate, DD’s adopted big sister for the cruise offers to take DD, DS and BFF Lily to dinner since her parents have Palo ressies as well, actually Kate and Lily’s mommy and I share a birthday! (I knew I liked her!!) Awesome idea right!! DS didn’t think so. So DD heads to dinner with the girls. She is so excited to be going out with no parental units!
We start trying to convince DS to go to the club….
NEVER REVEALED TIP ALERT!!: now, what you guys who haven’t cruised yet need to realize is at this point in the cruise….lack of structure, lack of sleep, junk food galore………your child at times….turns into an Alien.

It is not documented anywhere…not online, not in the Passporter or the
DCL literature…but it happens. It’s better you all know now. Sorry.
Okay, back to my story. So…DS turns into an Alien. He stomps his feet, throws himself on the bed, cries…..really cries! He is not, will not go to the club…he ain’t havin’ it!
I begin to panic! PALO DINNER!! ON MY BIRTHDAY!! ALL PLANNED! WOKE UP AT 3am!!! Ahhhhhhhhhh!
We try our best…DH tries to keep his calm (not his strong suit I might add). We promise his BBF (best buds forever) Jacob or Christian are there (okay we had NO IDEA if they were there), we promise he can stay up late tonight, he can call room service at mid-night…nothing works! We offer cold hard cash…still an alien!
We get dressed during all this and remain optimistic. DH loses his battle with his temper demon (this is one of those times that I hope our adjoining room mates are not in their cabin!!). I send him away…meet me at Palo at 6pm!!
I take DS up to the club who are currently having dinner at Topsiders then plan to go to the sports deck. The Alien begins to leave DS’s body. What is left is my adorable, sensitive 8 yo son who is sometimes a BIG BOY but sometimes mommy’s little guy who still loves hugs and snuggles. He holds tightly to my hand with tears in his eyes. “okay mommy, I will stay JUST until you get done dinner, then PROMISE you will come get me” My heart melts. Can I possibly walk away from this little angel? Leave him here tearfully waving at me??? YOU BETCHA!! I MEAN ITS PAALLLOOOO WE ARE TALKING ABOUT! The counselors are AWESOME! They see there is a problem and the counselor scraps together 3 little boys to come over and plead with DS to join them. He stands up straighter, starts to smile…….and swoosh he is gone!
I get up to Palo with 5 minutes to spare! DH is literally shocked to see me. Now, this hasn’t been discussed since, but I fully assume that DH would have dined at Palo alone if I hadn’t arrived….He says he wouldn’t have, but I think he was getting ready to go in when I got there….I’ll never be sure!
Dinner was awesome. Now I know some don’t agree, but I enjoyed Palo dinner better than the brunch…The food was incredible. We requested Mladen again and he out did himself.
We ordered a bottle of Banfi Chianti. It was delish. We easily over the 3 hour dinner polish it off (that is foreshadowing!!). We have some of the appetizer pizza, I ordered the Tomato and mozzarella salad and I have the Filet. DH has 2 entrées and I was so focused on my meal I couldn’t tell you what they were. We try a few desserts afterward including the chocolate soufflé…….everything was incredible!! We leave there satisfied but not disgustingly stuffed….eating over 3 hours seems to help!! A perfect night!!

Okay, too late to take DD and DS to dinner. (scratch that off the list) but we do gather then up (DS was having a blast at the club and has no recollection of the Alien that took over his body) and DD had a blast with the girls. We hang out a bit and then start talking up the “late night club” so we can go out and play……..no Aliens…….but they weren’t having it!!
We skeptically agree to let them stay in the room and watch a movie. (what you need to know here is that our twins aren’t the “can’t be apart, each other best friend” models. We got the “can’t be in the room together, constantly on each other’s nerves” models). That being said, was the main reason for our skepticism. We tell them where we will be, order and wait for some room service to be delivered and give them “THE TALK”.
Off we go …. Parent’s night out!
We meet bunches of our DIS friends at Sessions. I’m not going to list because I am afraid I’d miss someone. I order a Cosmo which comes with a full glass and ‘smore in the shaker (our waiter preformed a little “shake dance” whenever anyone ordered a mixed drink…too funny!” Someone orders me another for my birthday….then Kim (aka WeloveDCL) orders a round of Patron shots for everyone….there is more left in that shaker as well……and it is pushed my way……
See where I am going here……

LONG STORY SHORT….
I never make it to Rockin Bar D for 80’s night (even though that was one of the highlights I planned to attend since day 1 of planning!!). The waters were rougher that night than any other night….really they were! I swaggered the whole way to the cabin ……really the seas were rough! Both kid sound asleep.
We jump into bed……wow the boat is rocking!! And I fall right to sleep! For a few hours anyway…..I’ll spare you the details but I had a view of the Flush-o-matic that I haven’t seen since college!
Moral of the story….
I HAD THE BEST DARN BIRTHDAY EVER!!
Oh yeah…and I’m never drinking again!!
NEXT UP…
Really, I’m never drinking again!
The Aliens return!!
