We just got back from our first cruise (3-day cruise in May) We are planning a 7 day western cruise the end of Aug. Has anyone gone during that time of year? I know its hurricane season and I was afraid that we would feel the boat move more because the waters were rougher that time of year. We had category 8 this last time and felt very little movement. If we got category 6 midship would that help minimize the feeling of the boat move when you were in your room? One more question would you get category 8 or pay the extra money for category 6 with a verandah is it worth it? Thank you in advance for your help!!:)

We will be on the August 2 cruise - there are threads for August 23, if that's the date you will be on the Magic.

We had a Navigator's Verandah on our first cruise but have elected to go with the Verandah for all the rest. We find it is very much worth the money since we do like time and the view from the verandah.

We definitely were glad to have it last December when we both became ill (strep throat) and still could enjoy the view and sea while we had room service deliveries!

DS8 also enjoys it since he can see through the plexiglass easily and relax on the sofa/bed during our afternoon "naps" (more for the adults than the kids!)

We were on the "Magic-al Mystery Cruise" of 9/28/02 - when Hurricane Lili diverted us from Western Caribbean to Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and two days (separate) at Castaway Cay. Calm seas (like glass!) and great weather there for us!

I hope August will be as enjoyable as the other months we have spent on the ship and I do hope to get to the Western Caribbean this time around!

We were in Catagory 6 midship last August with a veradah. We had extremely calm seas.

I'm hoping to book for August, 2004 with exactly the same room and location on ship, if that helps you!

Love getting that feeling of "ownership" to a stateroom!!!!

rae, & rootee,
My fears are put to rest. I'm definitely going in Aug and get
cat. 6 Thank you for all your helpful information.

Vols001 - what week in August are you planning to go? My sister and I will be on the Aug 30 Western. We are in a Cat 9. Although I was a little worried about hurricane season, it was one of the only times we could go together (she moves into college for her sophomore year the day after the cruise ends!). I think it will be a great way to end the summer...can't wait!

we went the last week of august last year, had a cat 12 forward, the seas were calmer than they had been the previous november, the only complaint i had and i didnt really complain , i just made a mental note to myself was the climate control in the room was not cool enough we had a inside cabin and i thought it was warm and stuffy in august, the ttemp had been fine in november, and we were in the same area, but other than that the cruise was actually smoother than nov.

Interesting, Has anyone else noticed the warmer temps in the room in August? At least with a verandah you could get a breeze, a warm and humid one but at least you'll get air.
