My husband just broke his ankle :sad2: and we are on the Wonder 4/10/05.

Can anyone tell me what security might be like at the airport and the port regarding traveling with a cast?

Any other sugestions?

The TSA agents will prob. wand him -- does he have any pins? If so - I would recommend a note from the doctor.

It should be easier than others. Here we escort passengers needing assistance to the gate, bypassing the huge security lineups...We go through a crew line, clear security, and then get to the gate early, and board first..

Hope all goes well!!!!!!!!! :goodvibes

My mom flew a year and a half ago with a full arm cast. We had no problems. Our servers even tried to cut her food for her several times, but she was having none of that (I had to do it - LOL). Of course, she did fall in St. Martin & cracked the cast, but the ship's infirmary was wonderful. You should have no worries. Have a blast!

Does he get around with crutches or a wheelchair? Crutches may be a little odd if the seas are rough.

We were just recently on the cruise, 2 weeks ago, my husband hurt his foot and we mostly had to use one of their wheelchairs to move him anywhere with distance involved. We found that the long hallways with rooms were a little hard to navigate through since it's a little tight. If there was a room cleaning cart or something in the way, we couldn't fit through without moving things around. To go from one end of the ship to the next, we would often take the elevator up to a main floor, use the nice wide hallway, then take the elevator back to our room floor.

It's all doable, but a little extra work. Enjoy!

Did you use Disney's wheel chair or Did you have to rent one from a medical supply company?

If you rented could you give the name and phone number of the company you used.

Thanks

My daughter broke her arm just before our cruise a couple years back. She had all kinds of fun having the characters sign her cast. I'm pretty sure she still has it in her memory drawer.

We used the ship wheelchair and they were fine with it. When we got off the ship, they even told us we could use it to get him to the car and told us to just leave it somewhere on the curb out there and one of their staff would bring it back in later.

The only problem is that there is limited space to store it in the room. If fact, I'm not even sure if it fits through the door. We never tried because it looked like too tight of a squeeze. My husband would hobble in with the crutches and I would fold the chair up and wedge it in between a wall and the bed.

We had no problem with using theirs whatsoever, but it probably wouldn't hurt to check it out with them prior to arrival. I suppose there could be a situation where they had a high demand and not enough for everyone. Who knows.

We did have to rent the crutches from them. It was $30 (which would have been refunded when we returned them), but when it came time for us to leave, everyone realized we were going to need them to get home, so they sold them to us for the $30. We were very greatful for all their assistance.

Thanks for the info disjen.

He will be having surgery on Monday to repair broken ankle and we leave 6 days later.

I will have my travel agent call Disney and the airline to get everything hopefully arranged.
