My sister-in-law and brother-in-law were on a cruise (other than a Disney one) in Alaska and heard while they were there last summer that Disney was buying up docking space. Anyone know if there is any truth to whether or not Disney is looking into an Alaska cruise?

This is the first rumor of this I have heard...other than conversations around our dinner table "wouldn't it be cool if..."
:D

Disney has been doing surveys regarding many different cruises..including alaskan for years now. Everyone hopes it is true..but nothing solid yet.

If disney was buying docking space..it would be all over the business pages of the news.

I for one would love it and would be the first to sign on for that cruise.

After our western Magic cruise this past July, I received a postcard to do an online survey. One of the questions was:

Would you be interested in an Alaskan Disney cruise?

It wasn't stated and set up exactly like that, but that is what they were asking!

Well being a veteran cruiser, we certainly would love to hear it if they do. They have added quite a number of different iterineries, so, here's hoping, eh?

The question about Alaska and European cruises has been on the survey card for at least the last 3 years. We were told by a ship's officer that the working plan before 9/11 was for DCL to ultimately have a fleet of 7 ships, one of which would be in refurbishing, 6 working at any given time. Plans to begin building the next 2 were scrapped at 9/11.

On our last cruise, we were told that plans for building the next ship were in the preliminary stages...some approvals had been given by corporate and they were waiting for good dollar rates, etc. Nothing definite as to routes, etc. There was talk of Alaska/Hawaii routes, etc. but none of that was confirmed for us. The captain was a bit evasive and said that they were always looking for new opportunities for DCL.

So....if/when there is a DCL cruise to Alaska, we'll be on it. Until then, more Disney dreaming.

I hope they hurry up and do something before my kids grow up and move away!! I would love a permanent ship on the West Coast since we live in Phoenix...

There was a link that someone posted here previously that lists all of the cruise lines and their registered plans, etc. It listed all ships in preliminary and building stages through the end of 2005 and DCL was not on the list.

I participated in a survey two years ago about whether or not we'd be interested in doing a Disney cruise that left from New York to Bermuda. So I think they are surveying all their options.

the survey i got to participate in was online, and dealt with a med cruise from spain, seemed to have too many details to be just a fishing expedition. it was directed at dvc members, and included itineraries and points charts for the itineraries that were proposed. it looked very promising.

The survey for the idea to sail from New York was the same. Had a lot of detail about departure points, ports, times of year, etc. It was about three pages long, but that was more than three years ago and never heard another thing about it!
