If the price of my cruise drops prior to my PIF date, am I entitled to a refund of the difference? If so do I need to alert DCL and ask for it or will they automatically give me the refund?

You will get a refund, but there have been varied reports about whether or not you have to ask for it or not. Even after PIF you will get a refund if the price drops, though it hardly ever happens. It did happen to me once, about 30 days prior to sailing, and my TA called and asked for the refund. It was credited to my card within a day or 2.

It did happen too us once, had no idea price went down, when we checked in there was a credit on our on board account for difference. :yay:

Usually when you have a refund it is because the port taxes ended up being cheaper than what DCL charged. Not that the actual cruise fare has dropped but the taxes have.

True, this is most likely the case if a refund of a few dollars shows up on your credit card. But, in our (highly unusual) case, our actual cruise fare dropped and we got a refund of over $900.

The price has to actually drop on a regular fare. You can't get a refund if your cruise goes into a *GT fare, meaning you can't get a refund if you see that your cruise now has those last minute discounts.

That's probably what it is, I think it's about $89 total, so not a large amount at all ;) Although with our current exchange rate that does make it about $122 CDN :p

A reduction in port taxes/fees will be automatically refunded.
If the fare actually drops (not a special offer), I believe you need to request the new fare be applied and a refund given. That will not be automatic.

Enjoy your cruise!

Quick note I relieved a refund due to tax changes however I had to call into DCL since I paid with both a credit card as well as gift cards. They placed the refund back on one of the gift cards, luckily I kept all of them and was able to still use it as shipboard credit.
