Cruise - Ocean Village?

Will probably be doing a cruise (our first) in June 2005. It will be in the Med... Anyone experienced a Med cruise? I have heard good things about Ocean Village.

If we enjoy this, then maybe we will include a few days on a Disney cruise in the autumn!

A friend of mine has just come back from a back to back 2 week med cruise on the Ocean Village, and although he enjoyed it, he said he did miss the occasional formal night. He said that it was very very casual and laid back. No dressing up at all. This is fine for a lot of people but some people do like to have a formal or semi formal night.

Apart from that he did say that the ports of call were great, and the cabin was fine.

The vast majority of people on the cruise were young familys and lots of teenagers.

We went on the Disney cruise last August and are booked again for August 2006, we thought it was wonderful.

We have cruised twice on Ocean Village when she was Arcadia with P&O. She WAS a lovely ship with all the traditions of British cruising. Since becoming Ocean Village, she is now informal, all meals are buffet, there is no "dressing up" and the company is aiming for a "young professional" demographic.

This suits many but loses much of what appeals to us so we would not cruise on her again. It all depends on your taste.

We haven't cruised in the Med, buy have cruised to and from the Caribbean, around South America including 1000 miles up the Amazon, up the Mississippi to New Orleans and also just recently to Iberia. If casual, informality appeals to you then go with Ocean Village but if you like good service and high standards I would suggest another cruise line.

My parents have cruised on the Ocean Village, we all cruised as the Arcadia and loved it. They wouldnt go on OV again, but they are in their 60's so arent the target market. It very much depends on what you are looking for in a cruise. The cabins are a good size and the ports they stop at are good as well, they just prefered the more formal ships.
