Cruise incentive: how frequently is this offered?

Anyone have any idea whether the free cruise offer is a recurring incentive and how often it's typically offered over a given year?

Thanks!

It has been offered a few times, but there really is no set pattern as to when, or the requirements.

Disney tends to rotate incentives to keep them fresh and to give the impression that they may not be offered in the future.

If sales are slow, incentives will increase. If sales are on target, incentives will disappear.

I bought last year, added on 125 BLT, and got the 4 night cruise... we are going in December!

there are 5 of us going, so we had to upgrade to a cat. 4. COST $750

flights for 5 of us... COST $940

So, our free cruise is costing us, $1690 plus one night at THV, and 2 nights at AKL... Plus park passes and food and souvies!

It will be one awesome vacation, but the term "free", not so much!

:thumbsup2 What free cruise offer incentive?????? You buy through DVC and the cost is $90.00 to $110.00 per point. You buy resale and the cost is MUCH , MUCH less than buying direct. Take that money you saved and buy/book you own cruise. V. T. use your head and not your pocket book. :thumbsup2

I totally get that buying resale is a better deal $-wise, but what if they want to buy somewhere that you can't get a good deal resale? Aulani or Grand Californian? Is BLT even on the resale market yet? If I was buying SSR, I'd buy resale, totally.:confused3

Yes BLT is on the resale market. We bought resale in March 2010 for a good price and then added on through disney a month later to get the extra 2009 points.

or they want to finance

or they want to book a vacation now

BLT points are available resale but only about $10 cheaper than direct. So for a 100 point add on (I think that was the minimum to get the cruise) it would cost you $1000. For a 4 night cruise that's not bad, plus you get the points now and no closing costs to add on.

Now if you want to add an older resort, absolutely buy resale as you can save more than the cruise is worth!

Also, I am so happy we bought direct as the resale prices for BLT have still not gone as low as what we paid. We did however forfeit the cruise incentive for more $ taken off the price.

The most recent BLT contract clearing ROFR that I've seen was at $92.50, which I believe is $17.50 below the BEST direct price and probably $20 or more below the 100 point price.

Those of us who live in the "Cruise Capital of the World" can't imagine paying $1,000 for a 7-night cruise, much less a 4-nighter!

Check out the most recent post about the DCL point debacle, it doesn't look like they will be offering any cruise incentive.

Lucky you! For the rest of us, $1000 for a cruise is a pretty good deal!

ITA. The cruise incentive was offered when cruise bookings were way down. It was a win for Disney & DCL since an empty cabin brings in zero incremental revenue.

Cruise bookings have been picking up across the industry. IMO, there will not be any DVC incentives involving free DCL cruises coming along in the near future.

We bought and took the incentive of the cruise rather then the money off. But we also bought well before the $120 per point price. And, we added on 125 to get the 5 day/4 night cruise...

We had 5 going and upgraded to a cat 4. for $750.

So, we paid $150 per person for our cruise! We have looked at a cruise for a long time and have never pulled the trigger on going! Kind of forced use to go (ya ya, twist my arm to go on a Disney Cruise :rotfl2:).

I know there was the added cost of the "lost" incentive money... but I will get that back someday soon, when I add on at SSR resale for under $70!
