Cruise Curmudgeons of the World Unite

Those "abbreviations" sound like they might be coming out of Australia... That's the same kind of slang I encountered when I crewed on an Australian-flagged sailing ship. I still haven't figured out what language they speak down there. :)

Hi Grumpy Goat or should I say gidday mate
Did you ever think that us Aussies(abbreviation) dont want you to know what lingo(abbreviation) we speak???

Have enjoyed this thread and look forward to bumping into some cruise curmudgeons on our cruise next May.
Think we might have to abbreviate curmies

cheers

Whats with these critters

Gotcha! No thread has ever made me laugh this hard. I cringed, too, because I'm guilty of posting before checking. If I promise to never do it again can I stay here with the "curmies?"

I'm already coming up with a family name, packing real coffee, Velcro and a fork for my cake and Valium. I've told my Hello Kitty familiar she can't come unless she dresses in a pirate suit. What have I missed?

Despite being aggravated by the fact that Disney's Photo costs are outrageous, and I am now thinking of sneaking a spy camera on board for this purpose...it really bugs me when people go the last night of the cruise, find all of their pictures at Shutters, lay them out all over the floor (so you have to climb over them to pass) and then TAKE PICTURES OF THEIR PICTURES!!!:headache:

I like the Hello Kitty familiar. That will show a certain sense of style on a Disney Cruise, since Mickeys have become so déclassé.

Don't forget to practice your synchronized seat kicking.

Also don't forget to seek out information, "Tell me about the universe."

Really? I have never seen this behavior. Now my curiosity is sparked! This must be new.

I'm going to have to make sure I hang out at Shutters so I can take pictures of people taking pictures of their pictures.

(added)

Now I'm thinking about this, why on earth would people do this? I can understand being thrifty, but the quality must be appalling. Plus laying them out on the floor and doing that in a public area is just more than a bit undignified.

Are you sure they're taking pictures of their own pictures, and not somebody's else's and trying to pass them off as their own family?

.

Usually they are the same dimwits standing next to you at Shutters muttering to each other. "How can we find ourselves? How do we know its us?" :scared:

Yes, seriously, we were on the Magic the last cruise, and in the area next to Shutters, where the stairwell is, were people sitting on the floor, pictures all spread out, taking pictures of the ones they liked. They were trying to stay out of sight of the Shutters employees, which they could do on the last night, since the employees are all bombarded with people legally buying their pictures and CDs...:sad2:

Added:
Then again, they could have decided they didn't like how their pictures came out, and decided to find families that looked similar but better.... I could hear it now "Yeah, that's how good we looked before we ate ourselves silly on cruise food..."

What makes me cringe is when I stand next to a sign, let's say the one that says Palo. Someone who is new will ask if this is Palos. I am sorry you ask me that I will say no. After all the name of the place is Palo not Palos. People who pulralize names make me cringe. Sorry that's my rant.

We do that all the time, and I'm not sure why :confused3. We call Meijer...Meijers. Aldi...Aldi's. I'ts a good thing Kohls has an s on it or we would call it Kohls's

OK, OK, I know that many adults consider themselves Disney fanatics. I'm sure they are lovely people, but I just don't get the adults (OK, women) that walk around the ship all day carrying a Disney stuffed toy, mostly Mickey. They have them at the pool, at shows, on excursions, at dinner, everywhere. I know some even go to Build-A-Bear to buy their Mickey appropriate clothes for any occasion--tuxedos, swimwear, raincoats, etc.

It kinda freaks me out...

Rant over (for now)...

I totally agree...there probably the same type of person who have stuffed animals in the back window of there car. I just don't understand why grown peolple do that:confused3 :rotfl:

THANK YOU for saying that. :) That always baffles me too. I especially feel bad when it's a man clearly driving his wife's car. I always want to stop those people and say, "Don't you know how unsafe it is to make it clear that your car is driven by a female?!"

Thanks, Iankh, for bringing out the DCL curmudgeons of the DIS world!!! I love cruising DCL and can identify with my fellow curmudgeons about many of the aforementioned issues.

One of my pet peeves is when parents decide (a/k/a try to deceive the rest of the guests on the Magic, Wonder or Dream) that their 14, 15, 16 or 17 year old is really an 18+ year old and can swim in the Quiet Cove pool or join the adults in the hot tub. Honestly, do you really think we a/k/a curmudgeons believe this????!!!!

In October, I will plant myself near Shutters to people watch on Friday night before Pub Night. When we travel without grandkids, we avoid the pirate party and buffet, and often forget to watch the fireworks. One of the last times we watched them, we were on the Wonder inside the Cove Cafe on deck 10.

Looking forwrd to reading more PPs (pet peeves) (sorry Iankh!!).

I think that Pirate Night is now going to be our preferred Palo night.

I suppose much of my sentiment about Pirate Night is because of how much it was built up on these boards before our first cruise. I probably set out with expectations that were too high. And in some ways the first one was a marginally fun. Why I proceeded another 4 times to keep trying it is beyond me.

I suppose hope springs eternal.

I grew up in Dearborn, MI, just a couple of miles from Ford Motor world headquarters. Many Dearbornites referred to Ford Motor as "Fords".

Ian, I found the pic of Walt that you were curmudgeoning about.... (Thanks to the pic of the day thread)

Yes, that's it.

For me it's sort of sad that he's no longer a human being but instead a shining produce.

I've read a couple of biographies about him and the flesh and blood man was creative and dynamic. I find the shiny product boring.

Besides, there is something rather dark about altering photographs to bend history to one's will. Maybe Leon Trotsky got Walt's cigarettes.

Hello Kitty will be so pleased to hear others think she is more stylish than a certain famous mouse. She, of course, knows this, but affirmation is good.

Good tip on synchronized seat-kicking. I'll start practicing. That will be essential as I strive to annoy the "seat savers for the universe." :dance3:

Can I seek out information about what's beyond the universe? Will I like brussels sprouts?

I've got another one: Supposedly grown adults who use the word "yummy" when talking to other grown adults. I don't know why, but this drives me bonkers.

Ah, now I expect the brussels sprouts question to spark great debate and you'll probably see polarization of opinions between those who fall into the cabbage family vs. gourd family contingents.

Oh no!!! That debate aside, I must revert to the old standard. "Will I like...

...brussels sprouts?"

I only use the word yummy when talking to other grown women about grown men, does that count? :lmao: (Yep, I know curmudgeons hate the smileys, but this one fit...)
