Are there any decent restaurants within walking distance of the Crown Plaza in San Pedro? We have stayed here before and eaten at their restaurant, but it wasn't very good for dinner....
We have stayed at the Crown Plaza and found a lovely shopping plaza/restaurant/historical area just 3 blocks down the hill on the bay.
There was a maritime museum, small shops, restaurants--we ate at a Mexican restaurant for lunch, a fireboat house, and the red trolley line that operates daily. We spent the late morning and afternoon strolling the area.
For dinner, we ordered in pizza and called it an early night, as we had a very early flight the next day.
We ate at San Pedro Brewing for dinner, back in Feb, and we thought the food was pretty good. Really short walk from the Crowne Plaza and we were able to use a Restaurant.com coupon, as LKFan mentioned.
We also ate at the San Pedro Brewing Co, at the recommendation of the Crowne Plaza staff. It was about 2 safe blocks from the hotel, we walked and didn't feel uncomfortable at any point.
Service was awesome, atmosphere was interesting and the food was great!
The hotel staff were very helpful so don't hesitate to ask them for ideas, and yes, stay away from their cafe, there are better options close by.

For those that haven't used restaurant.com, there are often promo codes for 80% or 90% off which means you get a $25GC for $1-$2. Before you purchase, Google "restaurant.com promo code" and see if there is anything available.
I highly recommend The San Pedro Brewing Company too! I've eaten there often as I work nearby and I've never been disappointed. If you walk a little further down there is another great place called Niko's Pizzeria where there serve pretty good pizzas, calzones, sandwiches & salads! Also across the street between San Pedro Brewing & Nikos is Porkys BBQ...BBQ, Fried chicken and lots of southern style sides.
I forgot to mention that the restaurant in the Crowne Plaza did not accept Restaurant.com certificates, when we were there. They placed a small sign at the server's desk stating this. San Pedro Brewing accepted them without question, though.
There is a place called Think Cafe that is within walking distance. I usually have lunch there at least once a month but on occasion I've ordered breakfast for lunch and its always good.
http://www.mishisstrudel.com/ - I've never been here but my co-workers rave about it! This is also within walking distance.
If you are willing to take a 3/4- 1 mile walk uphill, there is the Gaffey Street Diner, which was featured on Diners, Drive Inns, and Dives. Massive portions- The John Wayne Breakfast is popular, though I'm partial to the chicken fried steak and eggs.
If anyone is considering buying GC from restaurant.com, they currently have a promo for 90% off. http://www.restaurant.com/
