Crowds This Past Week (week before Labor Day)

I am thinking about going this time next year. Can anyone give me some feedback on how the crowds were this past week. Thank you in advance for any info.

We went to DW last weekend - it was great - barely any crowds and if there were lines, they were short. However, that said, going this time of year - you risk hurricanes....The Labor Day weekend for everybody - including Florida residents - was a bust. We are still being told not to go out, a lot of people still don't have power, flooding (altho I heard that DW was open today)

Florida residents are in school and a lot of northerners don't go the weekend before Labor Day because they are getting ready for school themselves. This week would probably be better than President's Day Weekend (our family is never going that weekend again!) or in the spring. Some people complain about the heat but there are plenty of places to cool off. Although after two hurricane problems this season thus far, I think we will rethink serious plans this time of year.

thanks sbp59.

I was thinking about going next year, arriving the weekend before Labor Day and staying the week. Either leaving the Friday or Saturday of Labor Day weekend.

During the week the crowds must be very low if the weekend you were there was not very busy. I hope I can get some feedback from some one who was there during the week.

We went at this time in 2002 and had a great time...there were absolutly no wait times. We lucked out and had no rain either. Hurricanes are a risk but for us with two teens it has to be a non school time. We are going the last week of August in 2005. It is hot but when you can walk into mostly all attractions you are not in the sun or heat for long periods of time.

Thanks dreamerAl.

Growing up, and after I was first married, we always went to WDW in Aug. but it was at the begining of the month.

I don't want to take the kids out of school either, that's why I'm looking at the end of Aug. 2005 also.

From everything I have been able to find, the last two weeks in Aug. pretty empty. I guess I will take my chances with the Hurricanes and the heat.

We went down to Disney on August 24 and returned August 31st. It's a great time to go! The crowds were very manageable, we used fast passes and the longest time we waited was about 15 minutes. We did everything we wanted to get done. The heat was also manageable. Everywhere is air conditioned so we would just duck into an air conditioned area when we were too hot! I love going at the end of August.

We were there from 8/25 to 9/3. The crowds were really low. It was comparable to my Honeymoon in 96 when we went in January.

The humidity, on the other hand, was horrendous :D

I agree with the above posters. Florida schools have been in for a month now. Most Northern schools go back this week. So, I agree that the crowds should be light during the week days.

The weather will be of interest. You are still in the "Summer" weather pattern. Temps in the 90s, high humidity. Afternoon thunderstorms. And of course, that is during the peak of hurricane season.

That said, any time is a good time to visit WDW. If the crowds are light, you can take it slow and cool off more. You won't need to commando around hitting line after line and FP after FP.

Just remember your poncho and be flexible. :)

As you can see from my signature I've been to WDW in August before so I know how hot and humid it can be. I was thinking of going for 8 nights so we can take it slow and not push too hard. It sounds like this is the best time to go if you want low crowds without pulling the kids out of school.

We were there for that week in 2002 and then again last week. The humidity was horrid but we managed by going through almost every air conditioned building we could find and standing in front of fans in the lines.

Last week almost everything was a walk on, or we used fastpass. But as previous posters have mentioned, you also run the risk of hurricanes. Having stayed through Hurricane Frances I wouldn't want to be there during a hurricane again!

I too have been looking into going next Aug also, went in Sept. last year and very low crowds but can't take DS out of school and looks like we will be going the end of Aug. Hurricane season still runs and peaks in Sept anyhow and will take that chance and just hope for the best.

If I did extend my trip thru Labor Day, how were the crowds over the Labor Day weekend? And especially on Labor Day (Monday)?

well, this year the parks were empty on labor day weekend... that's because they were CLOSED! (due to hurricane) friday before and monday (labor day) the crowds were non-existent... a few times we were the only people we saw on some of the smaller walkways and such... there were NO lines and alot of the attractions were not even bothering w/fastpass!

we've done this time of year (last week in august) two trips before this one and it's been great... even w/hurricane frances landing smack dab in the middle of this trip, it's a great time to go to disney, imo!

Sorry...forgot about the hurricane

I was at WDW from 8/28-9/4. It was less crowded than when we were there January 23-26 of this year.

I thought the crowds were minimal, but by afternoon each day the lines were a bit longer, where in the morning you could walk on just about every ride.

On the Friday before Labor Day we went to AK early opening and for the first 1 1/2 hours no one was there, but it picked up by the time we left in late morning. We then went to MGM to do a couple of rides at about noon. It was not crowded but we waited in some short lines. In the evening we were surprised at how many people were at Epcot, but maybe everyone was trying to do something before the storm hit the next day. They had also closed SAB at 5:00 to prepare for the storm, so perhaps people just wandered over to Epcot. We knew they were going to close the parks on Saturday, because when we left Epcot at 9:00 p.m. they had put plastic and lots of tape over the ticket machines at the entrance.

I would highly recommend going the week before Labor Day, but be prepared for a hurricane and some very hot and extremely humid weather -- be well worth it!:earsgirl:
