Crowds the week before Christmas??

We were planning on driving down again in August but dh thought it might be nice to go at Christmas-time. Any idea on how the crowds are the week before Christmas? We looking at 18-24. I know it gets crazy around the 24th but we're hoping to get an early flight out that day. Oh yeah. We're looking at 2004, not this year!!! Thanks.

In 2000, we were there Dec. 16-23. The crowds did not begin to pick up until the 22nd. This year, we'll be there Dec. 19-23 so I hope our luck holds out and there are no large crowds until we leave.

I'm curious to know this too...I just checked and in 2000 the 22nd fell on a Friday, which was also the last day of school before the break for my kids. Does that mean that the Friday before Christmas will start getting busy...if that's the case, then this year it will be the 19th. In 2004 Christmas falls on a Saturday, and if many schools are out for that full week before Christmas, it might start getting busy from the 17th or 18th onward. I've heard it doesn't get REALLY bad until after Christmas...

We have gone the last 2 years at Christmas. The days before Christmas were fine. Crowds started to build on the 24th and continued to increase thru the rest of the week.

We arrived on the 19th in 2001 and the 20th in 2002.
