I never go this late but because disney might be having free dining this week, I have decided to go then. My question is how are the crowds at universal. I am thinking they are not that crowded because they close at 7 p.m. I am only concerned because we usually stay onsite there to get front of line passes but don't think it would be really worth it if they close at 7.

FL schools are already back in school, and may others in the south east. It should not be a crowded week.

It's always worth staying onsite! The parks may have lower attendance but the heat will be at it's highest. We were there last week of August and it was about 104 and very very humid....the thunder storms roll in 3-5 ish. The parks are not as empty as you may think. Lots of people go during this week to avoid the Florida Local crowds. There will still be lines on the regular lines, but the FOTL is completly walk on...when it's that hot, you don't want to wait on any line. The regular lines are still quite considerible at this time of year. Your best game plan for going last week of August is to get to the parks early and by late afternoon get back to the resort to cool off in the beautiful pool with a cold drink. Having FOTL access will allow you to ride and see what you like and give you time to enjoy the resort. Also see if there is a "Super Saver" rate on the universal orlando website and sign up for a Loews First card for extra perks. You can buy your park tickets on line now for $85.00 per person 7 days unlimited access to both parks. This offer only available on line. You will really enjoy USO by staying on site....there are plenty of bargains to be had. My DH and I are going in 2 weeks and got a Portofino Suite for 255 per night (free upgrade thru Loews First) and bought our own tickets online. Hey you can't beat that with a stick!!

It's not super-crowed but I do agree that staying on-site is the way to go, not just for the express lines but also simply because that's the best way to do UO. The heat sucks, plus we have a higher risk of hurricanes this year, and August is prime time. I'd say go anyway.
