Hi, My wife and 2 sons had a hard time picking between a cruise or the park. We made-up our minds and went with 9 night at Wilderness Lodge. Just found out that my wife and I are prego, and she will be about 8 months. We had Oct 28-Nov 6. We dont want to be away when she is that far along. Now we are back to a July cruise(if still room) or the last weekend in Aug and the first week in sept. My question is what do you think the crowds will be like? Labor day is the 7th (2nd week in sept) I was thinking there still might be crowds because of the late labor day. thanks for the help

Congratulations on the news! If I were you, I would still go, but stay out of the parks and maybe just enjoy the resorts on Labor Day weekend. There is so much to see everywhere besides the parks. Enjoy!

We've gone twice in late August and the crowds were what I'd consider light - wait times for most rides were 5 -15 minutes (posted on the sign, which ended up being even less). The very popular rides we used FPs and it worked out well. I'm pretty sure most Florida schools, as well as southern states, head back by the middle of August.

Our next trip is this August 15th thru 23rd. We always plan to take it easier during the middle of the day when it would be hottest. One day is a total water park day. It's hot but it's FUN!

We'll be there Aug. 23 - Sept. 4 at OKW - we've been in August before, and found out free dining is on while we're there, but that just makes the restaurants busy, not the parks. Please keep in mind it's very hot for Mrs. Prego, so she might be really uncomfortable. If you do go then, just keep in mind it's always nice to do EMH in the morning, and then resort time when it's the hottest (noon to four). We usually go back to the parks after dinner and pick the one with EMH in the evening to get the most out of not being in the sun, even though it's still warm out.
Have a great time, and congrats on your new addition :goodvibes

I would suspect the crowds would be fairly light....although there never seems to be a "dead" time any more. Many southern schools will be back in session and others gearing up as well. Folks tend to not take kids out the first few weeks of school.

The heat & humidity would be my concern for your wife, too. Take the worst summer day at Cape May (take out the sea breeze) and that could be what you'll be facing....even in the evenings.

How exciting! Myself, the wife, and a bunch of friends are gonna be at the world August 15th thru 21st! I was wondering about the late August crowds since this is my first time going at the time of the year. We will be staying at the AKV in the Kidani building in a dedicated 2br. How about you?

We have 5 nights booked in a 1BR concierge (that was the max we could book at 11 months with our points :sad1:) then we are moving over to BLT for 3 more nights!

I started an "August" thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2103775. Post your dates and get added to the list! There are a lot of Kidani people on there already (and Jambo, too). :) It's fun to see where everyone's staying :thumbsup2

I have been many times in late Aug and the crowds are usually light. With labor day being a bit late this year they may a little busier but it shouldnt be a significant increase I wouldnt think and should still be easily managed.

BUT - As others have noted, the issue I'd be conserned with is the prego in Aug. It is very hot and humid at this time (mid to high 90's with 100% humidity isnt unusual). I am not sure I could handle a prego wife in the August heat of Florida. You are one brave soldier if you pull this trip off without major injuries or damage to yourself or others. I think if I were attempt such a feat, I would try to get a reservation at BCV for 2 reasons - Beaches and Cream & SAB (no explanations needed).

pass years don't seem to mean anything this year.

Disney discounts are getting people to come visit the parks who have not been in years.

late Aug and all of Sept - is generally off season. Hurricanes can happen anytime between June and Nov - but most likely in Aug and Sept.

so it is generally not the crowds that is a problem - but the heat and humdity.

sometimes it is worst than June and July - othertimes not.

oh one good thing about the visitors who have not been in years - they do not understand fass pass - and so they don't use it.

Soarin' is still available in the afternoon hours.

We have always travelled in Nov., but now that our oldest daughters are in high school, it's getting awfully hard to take them out of school. This year, we're trying SSR 8/16-8/24. We hate the cold, so we're kind of looking forward to being warm, but we're hoping the crowds wont' be awful. Nov. has always been just wonderful with great weather and light crowds!

We have done late August and Labor Day twice, and the crowds were very easy, but the heat about did me in. If I was your wife, that would be a deal breaker for me. I remember being unbearably hot through my pregnancies just from the upped metabolism, and add in the heat and humidity of late August/early September in Florida, and I'd be skipping that trip.

Crowds in the past aren't an issue. TouringPlans.com, is currently saying mostly 4's and 5's for the Oct 28-Nov 6, with a spike of a 9 for the start of Jersey week. And for the end of Aug, same thing with out the 9 at the end.

But the real issue with the end of Aug is the oppressive Central Florida Heat and Humidity. Trust me it can be harsh at the end of Aug. It's not a issue, you just plan around it. Drink a lot water, take it easy, and ride pirates a lot (that is what we use to do when I lived down there, you can take your time in the ride queue, it's got A/C and )

That late in Oct it can either be hot or cold or just right. One year we went to MNSSHP, and everyone was freezing, the next year we went on the same weekend, and everyone was baking (yes after the Sun went down we where still hot.)

I understand the concern, since we just had to cancel our end of May trip. 37 weeks is not the time to haul your cookies down to WDW and run around the park. We are looking to go again in mid/late Aug, but we'll see if that works out.

The crowds are lighter because school is open in the South, and everybody from the north is busy with back to school stuff.
It is hot, with midday showers, and hurricanes could happen. I got chased out by Frances one visit.
But it is one of my favorite times to go. The parks tend to be open later, the lines shorter and it is a great way to wrap up summer.
Drink lots of water, enjoy afternoon breaks by the pool or for naps, then back to the parks for the cooler evenings.
As far as the pregnancy thing goes, if she is going to be hot and uncomfortable in New Jersey, why not be hot and uncomfortable at Disney? Just let her set the pace, and plan on more breaks in the airconditioning.

So which do you think is more crowded? The end of Jersey Week or the mid to end of August??
