Have booked reservations for Askurshus Bfast and Teppen Edo dinner and have never been to either restaurant. Do they tend to be busy/crowded or extra loud? Am looking for a more relaxed dining scenario to get a break from the crowds at the attractions, so would hate to go if they are going to be packed as well. Both booking are on the early side (first breakfast seating, and 5:00 dinner times). Thanks for any advice (food thoughts welcome too!) TY!

Akershus always feels hectic to me since it is a character meal and at one time it was partially a buffet. It is not what I would consider a peaceful break from the parks. I've never tried Teppen Edo so I can't give you any feedback there. I'm sure someone else will chime in.

We did Teppen Edo and that is a no return for us specifically because it was so loud. DS had to put noise cancelling headphones on and we couldn't really talk among our party of 6 for the noise. It's the cooking/show and all the people trying to talk over the noise that make it loud.

Most the character meals are chaotic and loud so I never went in expecting anything different.

I don't think either of those would be a relaxed dining scenario.

At Epcot Space220 is relatively quiet (still a bit noisy) and relaxed but service is super slow so kids were exhausted sitting in the same place for 2 hours. The music is chill. Teppan Edo is very very loud per reviews so I ended up cancelling our ADR. We have never been to Akershus - food just ok per reviews (prefer Topolinos breakfast or CRT dinner):

Both are loud. That aside Teppan Edo is a fave of mine, I never felt like my husband and I couldn't talk or hear one another.

If you are looking for a sit down Asian dinner try 9 Dragons in the China Pavilion, it's much quieter.

I usually don't watch reviews on YT, but I love them! Thanks for posting!!

We ate at Akershus in September and while I didn’t think the food was all that great, I didn’t find it loud or rushed. It was served family style. We were a group of 8, and we had plenty of room and had no problem talking amongst ourselves. We were not crowded - like we had no issues pushing back a chair and getting up to use the restroom. There was plenty of interaction with the princesses, and a manager came around to ask how things were and to make sure all the princesses had visited. We thought it was a nice break in the day, but I wouldn’t do it again unless I was with a princess-loving child. Now, I haven’t eaten Teppan Edo for a while, 2019 I believe, but we were a group of two seated with a large family, and while they were very friendly, they were also quite boisterous. They were amusing to listen to, but it wasn’t the most relaxing meal, and it ended up being way too much food - like head back to the room to nap or risk being sick in the heat too much.

I have eaten at Teppan Edo several times and it is loud and crowded - each table has seating for 8 and they seat families together, so it feels very cramped to me as well. If you want Japanese food in a quieter setting, try the new Shiki-Sai - we just ate there about a week ago and it is lovely, more calm and the food and service were excellent. As PPs have noted, Space 220 is rather quiet. While cramped, San Angel Inn is fairly quiet and calm. I also didn't feel as if Via Napoli was terribly loud or crowded. If you are looking for a character breakfast, perhaps consider Garden Grill. We were just there last week and it didn't feel crowded and it wasn't loud at all. Food was good and our server was amazing. Another thought - leave EP altogether and eat breakfast at Ale and Compass at YC or Trattoria at BWI.

We found Teppen Edo to be a bit on the loud side and rushed. A restaurant we've eaten at several times that we have found very relaxing is Coral Reef. We found the service excellent each time and the food very good. There's a large water tank and you can watch fish swim around while you are enjoying your dinner. Not everyone likes this restaurant but we do.

I’m a fan as well. Pretty spacious as well

I think the most quiet/feeling of spaciousness dining at Epcot would be Hacienda de San Angel, Spice Road Table and Shika-Sai. Coral Reef right at 11:30 am is pretty chill. There are a couple of tables in corners at Askershus if you want that breakfast experience.

Teppan Edo was a one and done for us, because it is half the price and the same at our local hi chi restaurants. We don’t care for the food at Garden Grill but it could be a quieter character breakfast. Haven’t been able to score a Space 220.

We were not a fan of the crepes at the creperie, but it wasn’t crowded when we had lunch there.

I enjoy La Hacienda - they have my favorite salad on property, but I always feel like I’m seated at a communal table when I’m there. We practically whisper to each other so we don’t disturb those seated what feels like mere inches away from us. Maybe we’ve always been unlucky in that regard, but we’ve always had great views of the fireworks, so I’ll take it!

I’ve always been lucky and have been seated in one of the booths facing the lake. Even when traveling solo

Thanks everyone for the great insights and suggestions! I figure with characters its tough to not have it be a little hectic, but I am definitely re-thinking my Teppen Edo reservation and may try to get into the other suggestions. I dont want to end a park day in a loud crowded dinner. I know Space 220 is a tough get, but hopefully Ill have luck with some others!

If you want character breakfast, Garden Grill is pretty quiet due to it’s design, plus Mickey, Chip, Dale and Pluto can’t talk unlike the Princesses .

One of the most relaxing meals I've had at Epcot is Monsieur Paul, but it is pricy. We had a window seat and could view the fireworks from there. I also second Garden Grill, because of the setup. I found Le Cellier to be very crowded. I was not comfortable. One of the best overall experiences I've ever had at Disney World (though not at Epcot) was Tiffins. Great experience.
