Crowd Levels Aug 22-26

So I have a so cal AP and have been itching to go back to DL and can do so starting Aug. 21. Now that's a Sunday, so I know it will be crazy, but will it still be too crazy that week?

I normally go after work during the week and get to the parks between 5 and 5:30. Should I just wait a week or so to let it die down (thinking all the so cal people will be like me, and ready to go back the moment they can)?

Also, when do schools normally start in SoCal? I moved from Texas in January and back home, our schools started the last week of August usually, but not sure about here.

I don't know about the schools, but a few years ago we made the mistake of visiting the week that the APs came unblocked. Wow. It was crowded. I would go that week only if you can get there in the early morning and get out (or be ready with a number of FPs in hand) by around noon. If I recall, the crowds got worse as the week wore on, and the evenings were the worst - esp. at DL. Doable? Yes, but have a plan!
