Crowd Level predictors for August?

I am planning our upcoming August trip. We will be spending time at disney and at Universal. We are staying offsite and will be spending 3-4 days at universal/IOA. I'm trying to pick our universal days using express pass costs (we don't plan on buying, just looking for the lower cost days as a guide) Undercover tourist, and touring plans crowd calendars. I'm getting totally different opinions on crowd levels for the same day from touring guides vs. undercover tourist. What crowd level predictors are the most reliable for universal?
