We were up at about 8:30 this morning and in Topsiders about 45 minutes later, both sides were open for the first time in a few days and all 4 buffet lines were full - I think everybody was eager to get off!

By the time we had finished breakfast we had docked at Funchal and there was time to get some photos.

While we waited for Customs clearance I had a short text conversation with Gemma, and since I now had a signal on my own phone I also sent a text to one of my other friends to let her know we were ok.

The ship was cleared around 10:45 and we made our way ashore.

We strolled round through the town, taking the long way to the cable car station where we bought round trip tickets at a cost of 15 Euros each. The trip up takes 15 minutes and by the time you reach the top the souvenir photo they take as the cable car leaves is printed out and waiting for you to buy!

Continued in next post

We stopped off at the top for a drink and to make use of the free wifi to catch up on my emails, then we had a quick look in the shop and took a photo before making our way back down.

Once at the bottom Dad went off to look round the shops and I made my way back to the ship taking some more photos along the way.

I was back on the ship at 2:20 and typed up my trip report before going upstairs to get something to eat. Dad was already up there with a hamburger and I got a hot dog.

After I had eaten I went down to do my 3 laps of the Promenade Deck but part of it was roped off so I just had a general wander round and then went back to the cabin to relax.

The show tonight was Passionatta, a flamenco dancing show, which was pretty good. After the show we went back up to the cabin and the phone rang, it was guest services wanting to know if I was back on board - when I got on nobody had taken my room card to swipe and check me back on board, I didn't think of it at the time but obviously that meant they had no record of me having returned. Presumably they had been putting announcements out for me but of course being in the theatre I hadn't heard anything. Hopefully they hadn't been waiting for me but, if they had, then apologies to any of my fellow passengers reading this!

Dinner tonight was in Lumiere's again and it was only at dinner that we found out that not only had their been public address calls for me but also guest services had called the state rooms of all of our table mates to see if any of them knew where I was! Luckily everybody took it in good spirits, and in fact Jeff and Susan who hadn't intended eating at the restaurant tonight because they didn't like the menu had come along just to make sure we were alright.

For dinner I had spicy beef turnovers, cheddar cheese soup and chicken cordon bleu, Dad had lobster roll, pea soup sand chicken cordon bleu. Dad had bread and butter pudding for dessert but I was full so I passed.

After dinner Dad went off for his brandy and I went up to deck 10 for the tropicali fragilistic expialidocious deck party at the Goofy pool but it was very blowy up there so I didn't stay long.

Dad got back to the room at 10:50 and we were soon in bed, with the clocks going forward one last time. Tomorrow would be sea day number 9.

Day 13 - At Sea

so they thought you had gone awol..lol! I'll bet you were glad to get off board and explore. the navigator seems to reflect them expecting a mass exodus off ship. the show sounds good.:goodvibes
