I woke up to the sun streaming through the window and looking at my watch I thought it said 6:30. Dad got out of bed and I got up to unplug my iPad and plug my phone in to charge. As I unplugged the iPad the screen sprang in to life and I noticed the time - 5:40!! There was no point trying to go back to sleep so I waited for Dad to come out of the bathroom and got up myself at about 6:40.

Once we were both washed and dressed we went downstairs for a buffet breakfast before checking out of the hotel and booking a cab for the 5 minute journey to the terminal.

We arrived at terminal 5 at 8:00 and had soon dropped off our bags and made our way to security. We were surprised to see that there are now gates just before security at which you scan your boarding pass which opens the gates and lets you through. There was a bit of a delay at security but nothing major and we were airside by 8:30.

After both going for a wander we made our way to the shuttle to the C gates and over to gate C53 where, after a short wait, boarding started, by 10:00 we were on board and we pushed back bang on time at 10:25.

Once in the air there was a drinks run and it was soon time for lunch, which was a choice of beef or fish, although by the time it got to us I took the last beef and suddenly two further choices of chicken curry or pasta became available.

I watched This Is 40, followed by Quartet and then spent some time on my iPad. The rest of the flight was spent watching The Guilt Trip and Parental Guidance, and eating an afternoon snack which was a chicken Caesar sandwich and a scone.

We landed at around 2:20 but, much like Orlando, it took about another hour to clear immigration. By the time we got through the baggage claim belt had been turned off and our cases were sitting by the side of it. We were quickly through Customs and then it was out to meet our driver who would take us to Galveston....except he was nowhere to be seen. I phoned the transfer company and got a voice mail message,I left a message and when nobody had got back to me after 10 minutes I rang again. This time I managed to speak to somebody and was told the driver had been held up in traffic but would be there in 10-15 minutes - this was at 4:00 - when the driver had still not turned up after 45 minutes I rang and got the voicemail message again. Shortly after the driver himself phoned me and said he would be there soon - he finally turned up at 5:30, some 3 hours after the plane had landed.

Just after 7:00 we finally arrived at the Tremont House hotel in Galveston only to find they could not find our booking. Luckily producing the email confirmation of the booking was enough and we were soon checked in to room 442.

Next stop was the rooftop bar for a drink after which we went down to the Tremont Cafe where Dad had a club sandwich and I had a spicy chicken blt wrap.

We were back in the room by 9:30 and soon off to bed ready to board the Magic tomorrow for our relaxing cruise back to Europe.

Day 2 - Embarkation

Not a lot went right one this day after the flight but glad you got the room sorted

That's annoying about the car . Love the hotel room :goodvibes

Nice room, shame about the long wait and the mix up, good job you had proof of your booking could have turned out very different for your both without it.

Yeah I had visions of them turning us away, especially as I didn't book direct with the hotel.
