Cross that we missed good flight prices for August

Wayne- when considering going indirect to Orlando which cities and airlines do you find work best? Also how long ideally for lay over? Don't want to be rushing to catch second plane but dont want top have hours to kill either.

Seen so many indirect flights but not sure which are best!

Thanks!

Mandy :)

Thankfully never had a problem with any indirect flight, all gone smoothly, worst we had was about a 3 hour delay waiting for cabin staff to arrive from another flight.
If possible then the hubs on the East coast are best, otherwise you are going inland to come back again but we don't mind anywhere. Best was last Oct NWA thru Detroit, great airline but they have now merged with Delta, not sure how thats affected their service. BMI have been good but they stopped their Manchester routes this year.
Outbound aim for a 2 hour change, thats ideal, I accept anything over 90 mins. Inbound anything over 1 hour as its just off one plane onto next.
Winter you have to take into consideration more north you go more chance of airports having delays with cold weather.
Personally I just go for whoever has best deal, but I don't care about food or entertainment etc, I just want to get there safe and cheap.

When Virgin were at their peak I had a £100 rule(£300 for 3 of us) I was willing to that for their better service and direct, unfortunately their service and quality has deteriorated but US carriers have improved so I won't pay more than a £200 (for all of us) premium now. Helps that we like going indirect.

Next year I will need a real cheapy so will consider going indirect, but this year it's straight there and i can't wait, 2 years is too long!!!

We have priced up flights from LHR to Chicago and then from Orlando back to Gatwick (due to family wedding) with VA & BA and they were so expensive. I have since looked at American Airlines from Manchester who fly to Orlando via Chicago and back the same way so ideal for us and it is loads cheaper.
Have you considered flying from Heathrow to Chicago with either VA or BA and then getting an internal return flight with Souhwest this will work out cheaper for you.

Hi everyone. OP here. Thanks so much for all your helpful replies. We finally booked our flights today.

After careful thought and research on people's reviews we have booked indirect flights with Delta on the Asda website. I really like the idea of clearing customs at the first airport and getting straight through at Orlando.

Our travel time is a bit longer but we depart Gatwick earlier so we arrive at Orlando about the same time as if we had flown direct with VA but with an extra £1500-£2000 to spend in our pockets!!!

We have paid £522 inc taxes per adult, £447 per child inc taxes. 11-28 August, 4 adults, 2 kids= £2983. VA are asking about £818 each per person for the same trip direct. Even if we had booked the VA flights when we saw them cheaper in January it still would have cost us several hundred pounds more.

We end up going a day earlier. We found the flights at this price last night for our original dates but did not book as wanted to think about the indirect flight. When we got up this morning they had gone up an extra £100 each! EEEK!! So we have booked to go one day earlier and got the nice prices. Could not take waiting any longer......shall avoid looking now!

Thanks so much for your great advice and support.

Let the planning begin!
Mandy :)
