My husband has crohn's and had another 12 inches of small bowel removed in April. My question is how do any of you with crohn's use Disney transportation? It seems as though the thought of being on a bus without access to a bathroom or the availbility to stop at one would cause anyone with crohn's a lot of anxiety. I don't want to rent a car, but I will if I have to. Anyone have crohn's and use Disney transportation?

It is really tough when you are having a flare up and you are at Disney because of their "iffy" transportation. I have been to Disney with Crohn's many times and I usually try to make myself go before leaving the park and hope for the best. I also keep in mind to try not to use the the transportation during "peak" times. Usually if I was at Disney with my family, and I was having a flare up, we would take our car to the parks to try to cut down on travel time.

It really is about hoping for the best and trying to avoid huge crowds entering or leaving the parks.

Good luck with your next visit. I know that I can honestly say that I know exactly which bathrooms at Disney are the best and worst from all my experiences. :rotfl:

Another possibility, if you can afford it would be to stay at one of the deluxe resorts on the monorail if you plan to be at MK the most or at one of the Epcot resorts if you plan to be at Epcot the most.

The monorail resorts would allow you to get to and from the MK quite quickly. As long as you avoid the busiest travel times, you should do well.
The Epcot resorts are served by boats, but you can also walk to both Epcot and the Studio.

Also, here's a page that might help you - a WDW bathroom website made by a DIS poster. It has pictures, along with information about the location and the size of the bathroom.

Thank you for your input. My husband just had surgery in April so he is not having a flare, but even with that there are times while out that he needs a bathroom fast. I will say that he is great with making sure he goes before we go anywhere but sometimes you just don't know. We are staying at POR because we are a family of 5.

Does anyone know if you can catch a cab from the parks to the resorts. We are flying so we will not have a car unless we rent one.

by the way, my hubby appreciates the bathroom link.

I totally understand about being post surgery too. I had surgery #4 about 3 years ago. I used to take Imodiums with me to try to slow down the urgency process. I have never stayed on the monorail and we have always stayed at the values or moderates when visiting the mouse.

The only thing I can say is hang in there. Once the bowels retrain themselves in a few more months the urgency should subside a little.

I just wanted to say I hope your DH is feeling better. My DH had his entire colon removed a few yrs ago. He had Ulcerative Colitis. It was a rough surgery but thankfully he is much better now.

One of my girlfriends has chrons and goes to WDW very often and I know she used the busses all the time.

I won't be using the busses. I panic just at the thought of needing a restroom and being stuck on a bus with no way off! Even on a day when I think I am feeling good, I can suddenly out of the clear blue get "sick" and I just don't want to have more anxiety in that situation!

Yes, you can take a cab to and from the parks.
Ask the Concierge, front desk or Bell Services staff at your resort how to get a cab. Then you can ask the driver how to arrange for a ride back to your resort.
All the parks have places where taxis can park to let people out. It's usually very close to the handicapped parking area or the buses.

I don't use the buses any longer for specifically the "urgently needing the bathroom" issue. The last time I took a bus we were going to Downtown Disney Marketplace in the summer and the bus was o incredible hot I felt like I was melting. My issues are exacerbated by feeling too hot so I was literally praying for the bus to get to the first stop so I could run to the bathroom without leaking.

I won't use buses any more because of the anxiety the cause because I am not in control of the situation and I can't stop and go to the bathroom when I need to.

You may be in a better position than me. Good luck.

I also will not use the Disney transport system for reasons more than Crohn's. We had an hour and 15 minute wait during a previous trip, then took a bus to a neighboring All Star resort and hiked back to our room. Good thing a flare up was not happening.
