So far, I'm not totally sold on getting Crocs for my upcoming trip in February but I want to get new , comfortable shoes. So comfortable, even Forrest Gump would notice and say, " Those look like comfortable shoes ". :) Are there any posters on this board who are a member The American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society ? Is there an MD here who is willing to give an opinion of Crocs?

I'm not sold on plastic shoes, unless it's flip flops to and from a beach or pool. I need a shoe that has a lot of support, with little risk of slipping and one that doesn't hurt the back or sides of my feet. Crocs also seem like a shoe that's not easy to fit on the foot, if people are having to put them in the dryer to stretch out and fit to size. I don't know if Crocs would fit the bill. What walking shoe is most recommended by podiatrists or orthopedists? TIA

PS: Those with a foot fetish don't qualify as a foot and ankle specialist! :rotfl2: Sorry, I couldn't resist that one ! :)

I came across these..
http://shop.crocs.com/pc-46-4-relie...=41p&subsectionname=footwear&section=products

If the link doesn't work, go to crocs.com and look up the "relief" style. My mom will be ordering some of these soon. She has heel pains and her dr said they would be fine. That and going somewhere like a New Balance shoestore where they can help you choose the right type shoe. They will look at your feet and tell you about your arch, etc . Hope this helps! :goodvibes

I am not certified of anything here..but IMO Crocs are about the most comfortable walking shoe there is! I wore mine for a week in Disney, and my feet honestly didn't hurt as bad as they would with tennis shoes! I"m a complete klutz, and I didn't slip, (even in the rain..running) with them.. also the backs are great for running a little bit. I would highly reccomend them, also the size thing..is a factor, but try on all of them, and they should be a bit loose! :)

No expert either, just my humble opinion - but I wear my crocs every visit we make to the parks- they are by far the most comfortable shoes that I own for this purpose.... I have high arches, and usually by the end of a long day on my feet they would ache, even in good athletic shoes - but not my crocs. I have never had a blister from them - the very first day I wore them was a FULL day opening to closing at EPCOT. DD wears hers every day to school and whenever we go to the parks as well. We both got new pairs today!

I was talking to a couple on Wed while my DD and their kids were riding BTMRR mulitple times, and she had them on as well... saying she was skeptical at first, but after her first day - she wore nothing else... her kids too!

When I had DD in the ER earlier this year.... every one that came into her room - Dr, Nurses, Lab techs, etc had them on their feet as well - it was like a croc convention (as we both had ours on.) My DDs pediatrician also commented that is what she wore during her residency every day. So it seems like at least her in Orlando that some of the medical profession feel they are comfortable as well!

Doc Marts will always be the way to go for support. They have sandals but they are still a bit heavy for Dis. Crocs are OK, and that's it. OK. They're not going to offer that much support but their cushion is incredible and that's better than wearing Old Navy flip flops. I would recommend getting Dr Scholl's gel inserts (pack them in your suitcase, can't take them on the plane) and cut them to the shape of whatever sandal/shoe you wear. I'd look for a shoe in "wide" as it sounds like your shoes are a bit narrow for your feet if they are hurting the sides.

I'm not a foot specialist either but I can speak from experience. I am prone to ankle injuries and earlier this year I managed my worst one yet. I tore 3 ligaments and badly bruised my left foot and ankle bones. After almost 6 months, it stills hurt if I walk around too much (dr. said it will take a long time to feel completely normal - sprains take longer to heal than some breaks!). I just went back to work after being on disability and spending the summer at home (I work in a classroom). I've worn all of my usually comfortable shoes and was still getting foot and ankle pain. So I finally tried Crocs. They are so comfortable. They're the first pair of shoes I haven't had to break-in. They felt great from the moment I put them on. I still wear an elastic support on my ankle and I usually wear little socks with my Crocs because I like how they feel. I can walk around my classroom all day and then walk 1/2 mile to and from another school to pick up my boys.

You might go to a Crocs store and try some on. Walk around a little and see how they feel. You might be pleasantly surprised like I was!

Not a foot specialist but... my mom works at a high end european comfort shoe store... they do NOT reccomend crocs (poor support), but if you go into a high end shoe store, they should be able to help you figure out what you need. Good walking shoes WILL be comfier in the end and will be better in the long run by preventing future problems.

No expert here but I have to say my Crocs are one of, if not the most, comfortable pair of shoes I have ever owned. I wear them constantly and my feet never hurt. I even wore them on a light hike and they were wonderful.

I used to work for Rockport shoe and they are a great shoe for people with foot/back issues. I worked at the corporate office and spoke to many a customer who called in and raved about the shoe. Wonderful for people with different issues. I loved their adventure sandals. Too bad I don't get them at a discount anymore! :guilty:

I'm not an expert, but I do have something to offer here.

Birkenstock, who is known for excellent foot support and healthy feet, makes another brand called Birki's. Some of them are made of the same material as Crocs.

I have this pair...

Here is another pair similar to Crocs...

The pair I have are EXTREMELY comfortable. I wear them at work during our summer camp all day! I also wear them to water parks and my feet never slip. And like I said, Birkenstocks are known to be good for your feet! :thumbsup2

Hope this helps!!!

Again, not an expert, but our school just sent home a letter saying that towards the end of the last school year they had a huge rise in ankle injuries related to students wearing Croc's or croc style sandals. They just asked that parents consider alternatives on days when students will be doing alot of running (my son is 6 and that equals everyday:)-that said, we have not worn our Payless imitation Crocs to school yet this year, although we prob will...just not on gym days. We are heading to MNSSHP in Oct and I just bought a pair of Keen H2 sandals for the trip. I have been breaking them in and today wore them all day at the zoo, they felt great!-Hope this helps-Rebecca
