I'm still 2 weeks out before I can make reservations, just practicing now. I'm on the DDP, but when I went online through My Disney Experience to practice making reservations, it let me through. During the reservation process for Spirit of Aloha, it told me I had to reserve using my credit card, and that I would be charged something like $161 - will this go away when I'm within my 180 period to make actual reservations?

I'm kinda new to this whole process, not quite sure how things work ...

They charge your card and when u arrive you tell them your on the DDP...they will credit your credit card...at least that is how it was.

When your 180 day arrives you should be able to go through MDE which has your resort and dining plan info on it. At that time you should be able to book the Spirit of Aloha Luau using dining credits, rather than have your credit card charged for the full amount. Even when using dining credits, however, you will have to include your credit card info for the no show guarantee. If the system doesn't recognize your dining plan, you can call the dining line and make the reservation with a CM.

Make sure you have category 2 or category 3 chosen. If you choose category 1, you will be charged to your credit card.

This is correct. The DDP can only be used for category 2 or 3, but you have to pay OOP (which you will be charged for at booking) if you want category 1.
