Creative people, I need your help...re:halloween

my ds wants to be a raccoon for halloween, he wore a raccoon costume last year that consisted of a hat that looked like a raccoon with a tail down the back, and a furry vest. and I painted his face.
so he wants to be a raccoon again this year.........
so I cannot for the life of me find that costume stuff from last year, and we have been to several stores and nothing remotely raccoon in any of them.

The costume from last year, I ordered it online, I think costume express, I don't remember, but I can't find it online this year anyway.

so any creative ideas of how to make him look like a raccoon?? LOL

can you buy fabric that is furry and fold it over and cut a hole for his head? you can either stitch the sides or glue them (glue or stitch on the opposite side to make a clean seam).

Brown sweats for the body. Brown felt or fleece for hat...basically do as pp suggested, cut a rectangle--width equal to 3/4 circumfence of son's head, length equal to measurement from front (clavicle) to back (base of neck). Add black felt "mask" (glue may work). Small rubber bands or hair bands on upper corners and pull around a bit for ears. For tail, roll a length of fleece/felt to tail length, add black bands.

Don't forget the black rings (liquid eyeliner) around each eye. Sounds cute.

Don't laugh but I was just down in the basement looking for the halloween buckets and I found a bag..........and you guessed it, the raccoon stuff from last year was in the bag!
it was buried under a mound of christmas decor.
