Creating cross sticth patterns

I'm interested in creating my own cross stitch patterns. Does anyone know anything about the peograms offered for this? Or how long they take to create? Thanks!

I recently got the program PC Stitch. I really like it! They have a free trial that is fully functional, you just can't print or save. I googled for a coupon and got it for $20!
