Crazy Prices for Deluxe Hotels

I can't believe people pay $800+ per night for a Disney hotel.

I priced the Poly for a standard room during a "green" time on the Disney travel calendars. It was $802 per night for a standard Poly room. Like....what? I stayed there a few years ago for in the $500's (and that was a splurge)...but $800?!? Get out of town, Disney.
We got a low rate at the GF when they reopened after covid (~$500) but like the Poly the rates have been in the sratospehere since then. You can stay at the Coronado for 4 nights at those rates.

Ha! That is what we booked! I am a deluxe person by nature, but the prices have gotten stupid expensive. No way would I spend $600 for the AKL, almost $900 for the Grand Floridian, $700 for the Boardwalk, etc. That's just crazy.

A friend who is DVC was staying at the GF shortly after it reopened. He got talking to GM of the GF, or what ever they call the person in charge, about how it was going since reopening and was told if he wanted to stay a few more nights it would only cost him $150 a night. Want to say they extended 3 nights. He would have loved another week but couldn't swing it

This is precisely why our family is now staying at POFQ, our favorite mod. We absolutely love GF but the prices are insane. In Jan/Feb, we were unable to get any discounts and paid rack rate for the first time ever. We had two rooms at POFQ for >$200 less than one room at GF per night. That really adds up for a 10 night vacation. I will take that deal every time!

I remember several years ago being able to book GF on a special agency discount for around $350 a night. Boy, I really miss those prices.

The only sales I see are the summer months when it feels like satan is breathing on you. You couldn't pay me to go in summer-discount or not. ha!

LOL! But the Disney Visa discounts this summer are REALLY good. Stay in a hotel with a nice pool and do the parks in the late afternoon/evening. That's our plan. Most deluxe are well under $500/night with this summer discount.

Last year there weren't any discounts so I assume some people were.
Unfortunately, we did for a few nights at YC CL. Ouch. We rented points at BCV for the rest.

ETA: I just remembered we may have gotten a $500 total stay discount at YC.

This is why our last couple of trips we have stayed offsite. The value is just not there for me anymore to stay on site. Don't get me wrong I love being in the "bubble" but found as we have gotten older the bubble is losing its luster. We are going again in October and booked a 4 bedroom 4 bath house with pool and hot tub for less than $1500.00 for the week. Only 15 minutes from parks. So by the time we spilt cost with our friends and oldest son and his wife its less than 500 a couple. With that deal we don't feel bad "splurging" on preferred parking at the parks.

Even at the discounted rates, I couldn’t justify staying at Delux hotels. Disney’s rates are just too crazy for me - and I live in one of the most expensive areas in the country (Seattle).

We’re planning on a 10 day Orlando trip later this year. We’re staying at the Swan and the Grand Floridian. If we didn’t have DVC points, we would still consider the Swan, but definitely not the GF.

When I’m at the parks all day, spending a ton of $$$$ on the room doesn’t make sense to me. May be different if we were doing a resort only stay, but if we were, we probably wouldn’t do Orlando.

It's insane what disney deluxes charge considering a deluxe in a lot of ways isn't even the same level as the international hotel chains but yet they charge a lot more. It's the disney bubble that warrants those crazy amounts. I would presume there are some people paying those crazy rates but I don't see any real benefits for those monorail resorts over crescent lake/epcot area deluxes when you can walk/boat to 2 parks instead of just MK only. I love the monorail and I love what Poly and CR are to WDW being the OG lodging options but there's no way I'd spend that amount of money on any hotel room. We usually end up at swan/dolphin with an occasional BW/BC stay if there's a good discount. Can't beat the location. I have not paid rack rate for a disney room besides one time when we had a super last minute one night stay. You can stay at the poly with the 35% dis visa discount for $579/nt this summer but that's still crazy high. Not that much of a discount imo.

Rent DVC points. It's much much cheaper than even discounted cash rates. David's Vacation Rentals, DVC Rental Store, etc. Also you can go to the DVC board here and rent directly from owners. If you want additional options join Facebook DVC rental pages.

Yes, we have done this a couple of time for special celebrations. Much more reasonable for a deluxe experience.

i have been staying at the hotels at Flamingo Crossing more often for Disney trips.

It is a great way to stay at Deluxe properties for a lot less. Sure there are drawbacks, and you have to pay attention to the fine print & it's not for everyone BUT by renting points we've had 8 stays at Deluxe resorts and 0 issues in any of our transactions. We are planning on renting points again for a stay next year.

Another option is the Swan and Dolphin. I've never stayed there but compared to Disney deluxe resorts the prices are very reasonable and from what I've seen you get the same benefits as a Disney deluxe resort. Also the location is great since Hollywood Studios and Epcot are within walking distance or a short boat ride.
