We have been DVC members x years, and we were calculating that with our annual dues our room costs are approximately $116/night Canadian for a studio. We always used to say with DVC we get deluxe resorts at value resort prices. No more.

We are going to WDW for almost 2 weeks this fall (last week of Nov/first week of Dec) and wanted to extend our trip by 2 days...no DVC available at this point even for a single night. So looked into available resorts, focussing on value resort or PO. Only thing available is a pop century suite for $270 US. POR standard studio room was $240 US as a discounted rate. Converted to CDN that’s $321 plus taxes CDN per night.

We have been spoiled by DVC. I don’t know how people can afford these trips.

‘I remember when you could get a value resort for $49 US/night’....this was the 90s however. In the 2000’s I remember we would get $79 rooms. How things have changed, more than tripled the price.

Guess we’re not extending our trip!

Why not give off site a try? There should be plenty of reasonably priced options. You could :P check out the many other things to do in the area.

P.S. I agree DVC had spoiled us!

Been there, done that ;). No car. Like my Disney Magic 24/7

Tell me about it. We paid a little under $6K CAD last Xmas for 8 nights in a family suite at AoA. Where is the value in this value resort???

You are actually getting 2 rooms. I stayed in AoA Little Mermaid in April and those rooms are tiny. Have also stayed in a Cars Suite, much more room, worth the higher price.

OP - keep checking for rooms on the website. Friends and I had a brainstorm last week to go the end of September. When I first checked, no studios available, some 1 bedrooms. Checked a little later and found September 23 & 24 at Poly, standard view studio. I waitlisted September 22. Later when I got home from work, I checked again and September 22 was available! I hurried up and booked it and cancelled the waitlist. Called Member Services and she was able to extend the original reservation to include the 22nd and cancelled the separate reservation. So pulled that off about 50 days before check-in.

Ha! I just calculated our RACK rate cost for our upcoming OKW stay in 2 bed. Cost including tax would be over 12 THOUSAND dollars. And, that was with some 'low' rates for half of the days.
Crazy amount of money for a room.

I do agree that Disney has not been afraid to raise prices and then do it again. It applies to everything - rooms, dining, tickets, merchandise, experiences, added experiences etc, etc. To compare in this case though you were quoting a suite price - so more than a studio. Double your studio cost it's $232 so closer. A standard value room would be closer to the studio if it were available.

Yes, DVC is definitely holding its value. Our purchase has paid for itself time and time again.

It feels like it is even more value added now that the cash prices have gone up so high

I can only partially agree. It's a very specific market and choice - wanting to stay onsite at WDW which is hugely inflated. I have seen some lovely homes and condos available for much less $$. The 'value' is artificially controlled.

Did you try All Star Movies or Coronado Springs? They usually are cheaper than Pop. We are staying at Coronado Springs in September for a ridiculously low price, at least I feel that way. 8 nights for like 1300 total.

And prices will ONLY increase as Star Wars Land comes online, and Guardians, and Toy Story, and Ratatouille, and Gondola "Skyliner".. Now is the time to buy, and not 2019-2020.. I know I am holding on to DVC for quite a while.... Stay Tuned!!!!
