Here's the situation.... My DD listed 6 of her American Girl doll dresses for sale. $10 - $15. Each one is in a different listing. She was contacted by someone a few states over who wants to purchase 2 of the dresses. This woman would like them shipped and (obviously) will pay for shipping.

Soooo..... :confused3 How would you handle payment? or would you simply answer back 'not interested in shipping' .. to avoid possible future headaches with the situation ?? Every other time selling on Craigs List it's been obvious to us that the scammers are scammers. This one seems legit.

I buy AG stuff off Craigslist and have it shipped all the time. I either pay via paypal or a postal money order. Which ever the seller prefers.

A postal money order can be cashed at the post office. So if it is not any good you don't hand over the package. If it is good. You can give the clerk the money order and have cash in hand.

BTW--if she is selling Kirsten items I may be interested.

My DH listed an item on CL and a woman from out of state asked him if he would ship it. She sent a Western Union money order. Before he shipped it, he went to Wal-mart to have it verified. It was fake. He called the local law enforcement and they came got the money order and a print out of the email communication between the two as well as a phone number she had called him from. We never heard anything else from there. This lady seemed very sincere and legit. She wasn't.

Regarding PayPal, I would NOT recommend it. If you ship her the items, she can file a SNAD (Significantly Not As Described). PayPal will require her to return the items to you with Delivery Confirmation before refunding her. The problem is that PayPal has no way of verifying what she sends back. She can send you a rock with Delivery Confirmation and she will still get a refund.

I would deal with local folks who can pay in cash only, with the exception of perhaps an eBayer with exceptional and numerous feedback. (and being that sellers can only leave positive feedback for buyers, even that is a risk now days).

I agree. The whole point of Craigslist is that it's really for local transactions only. I would absolutely *not* ship anything - all transactions would be face-to-face.

I bought a Christmas gift on CL a couple years ago and just sent cash. It was a risk, but I was okay with taking it since it was less than $50.

I agree with above posts as well. If you are not interested in shipping, just email back telling her. But if you don't mind, I'd await payment via paypal and then ship once recieved.

I think I would be pretty wary. I would hate for your daughter to be taken advantage of. You would like to believe that most people would behave honestly, but sadly you cannot.

I was quite shocked when I recently purchased a small item through UPillar that the person accepted a personal check and pretty much sent me the item the day she got my check. I don't know if she was able to get her bank to verify it for her that quickly or she was just really trusting.

I think I would hold out for someone local who can pay you cash.

Less and less people are using eBay with all of the paypal and eBay fees stacking up. I always use a website that searches all of craigslist just to see what is out there for the items I'm looking for. I always find craigslist to be way over priced or way under priced compared to eBay so it's a shot. I would add a s&h fee and await payment. Postal money order or paypal (just remember if you do paypal and she sends it as payment for an item they will tack on their fee so you'll need to include that in her handling cost).

I agree with PPs, paypal or money order. Just include shipping and paypal fees in the total quoted to the buyer.
