Hi everyone(first post exciting hehe) I'm currently looking into the program in dlr, mostly bc while i love wdw i grew up here and would like a little change of scenery. That being said, i have a few questions:

1: (and really the most important) How hard is it NOT to have a car? I saw they dont have a bus system like wdw.
2: I'm a criminal justice major, just wondering what all you do in that program there?
3: Is the housing ok? like well maintained and not like crap inside.

please feel free to add anymore information that you have :)

A couple of my really good friends have done / are doing the program at DLR. My answers are based on what I've heard from them, so they may not be 100% accurate but hopefully they'll be close. ;)

1. Housing is located about two miles north of the resort. If you're feeling really adventurous you could walk it, but my guess is that there is probably some public transit you could use to get you closer. I went to college in the area, and we drove past a ton of public bus stops whenever we drove to DLR.

2. Here's a link from the college program website that's specifically directed toward Criminal Justice majors. While it mentions WDW a lot, I think it applies to DLR as well. http://disney.go.com/disneycareers/disneycollegeprogram/dlr/pdf/majors/Criminal_Justice.pdf

3. I don't know much about the quality of the housing cause my friends in the program are living at home, but the pictures on the website look nice. http://disney.go.com/disneycareers/disneycollegeprogram/dlr/students/housing/housing_photos.html

Hope that helps a little. I gladly defer to anyone that has actually done the program who would know more than me. :rotfl:

thanks it does help a little. eww 2 miles? i know if its anything like wdw you can be called in at like 4 in the morning. im brave but not walking to dlr in the middle of the night brave.

I want to say that having access to my own transportation was a requirement to accept the DLR DCP invitation but as I turned it down (to do the WDW CP) I can't be sure and I never received any of the official paperwork since they do it over the phone.

I'm in the DLR CP right now. I'm a local though. But if you do stay in housing, you do have to provide own transportation. Whether, car, walk, bus, bike, whatever it takes to get you to work. One good thing about DLR is they have a Commuter Assitance program, and everytime you use any other means besides a car to get to work you get points which can then be cashed out for money, and it works if you carpool as well. Oh and you can also get a free bus pass to ride the buses. :)
