We went on this in December with my 5 yo son and 2 yo daughter. He did not enjoy the ruins because it was hot and there wasn't very much shade. He also kept wanting to wander off and didn't want to stay with the group. I thought it was interesting to see but wouldn't recommend it to others with young kids. Also, interestingly our guide and another group's guide gave almost completely different explanations for an arch structure.
Our son did like the chocolate tour and the beach break. The chocolate factory and resort was at the same stop. The chocolate tour had a tasting of fresh mole on a fresh tortilla which the kids liked a lot. They also gave a scoop of fresh made dark chocolate. There was a nice demo of different chocolate making techniques. As a note of warning, I wouldn't describe it as an actual manufacturing chocolate factory tour but for the kids it was just fine. It concluded, with a mix your own chocolate drink.
I felt a little rushed for the beach break. I think we ended up having a little more than an hour allocated for that so not a lot of time to enjoy the resort and relax at the beach. It's a full beach resort with a lot of activities.
I'd suggest if there's just a chocolate and beach break tour to choose that one and skip the ruins.
