Why? Do they have underlying medical conditions, too?Oh my I'm so very sorry. I'm trying to convince my three college kids to get the shot.

I love the use of absolutes. "Why are you always trying to start something?" FTR, I'm not ALWAYS trying to start something. I don't know anyone who is ALWAYS trying to start something, but (then again) I don't travel in groups of people who are prone to dramatics and melodrama, so my experience may be different from yours. Why are you always trying to start something? It's an honest question.
My dh's coworkers son died this week of H1N1- in his sleep- he wasn't even very sick. He had underlying medical conditions. My dh went to the visiting hours last night. It was really sad. Please pray for the family.![]()

Secondly, it's the title of the thread that's contributing to the nationwide paranoia about the flu that's going around this year. It's designed to elicit a prescribed response: SWINE FLU KILLED A 24 YEAR OLD*! EVERYONE GET YOUR SHOTS OR YOU MIGHT DIE TOO!
I was trying to point out that the 24 y/o in question had underlying medical conditions that likely contributed more to his death than the Swine Flu did. I feel badly for that young man's family, but my feelings don't overwhelm my logic and reasoning. He could have just as easily died from the regular flu as from the Swine Flu.
If you are healthy with no underlying medical conditions, there's really no reason for you to get "the shot". The panic of healthy people running out trying to protect themselves are keeping those with underlying medical conditions from getting their annual flu shots.
So please, I'm not trying to "start" something. I'm merely interjecting a little calm, cool, logical reasoning into (yet) a(nother) thread about panic over a flu that, so far, has killed far, FAR fewer people than your average seasonal influenza.
*with underlying medical conditions.

I am really sorry to hear about this and I will keep his family in my prayers.
This certainly isn't the place for an argument to arise on the pros or cons of getting vaccinated. I'm sorry that it's gone there. I wish everyone would realize that it's an individual choice and support an individual's right to make that decision for themselves. There are threads to discus the pros and cons, but this thread and those like it just aren't the place, IMO.
