Cowboy Hat added to Mickey on TX based cruises

The cowboy hat was only on there for Magic's arrival... was pretty awesome to see. :) But it was gone by the time she sailed that afternoon, sadly. :(

I'm not too sad that the hat was gone. The outside world seems to think that everyone in Texas wear a cowboy hat on their head and a gun on their waist. That's simply not true. So, I like to think that the Magic sailed in like a tourist with the stereotypical hat, and then took it off to show she plans to stay for awhile like a local. After all, I may not have been born and raised in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could!

Not sure I would agree that everyone outside of Texas thinks everyone in Texas wears a cowboy hat.. I think it was Disney's way of recognizing a new port.. Much like you see Leis when you go to Hawaii or mukluks in Alaska. I actually thought the Cowboy hat is pretty cool..

I'm with you on that one.....Whenever I tell someone that I live in Houston, they seem to believe that I live on a dirt road and ride horses.

Having been born and raised in Texas all my life (52 long years) I thought it was a GREAT touch:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I have traveled all over the world and yes many years ago in Switzerland I was asked if I rode a horse to school:rotfl2: However these days I never encounter the horse/ranch & gun questions.

I have lived in Texas all my life and I loved the cowboy hat. To me, it symbolized the special aspect of the port! Of course, Galveston should really have a pirate bandanna and eye patch!

I agree with what the other fellow Texans have mentioned here.

People here seldom wear cowboy hats.

That said, I thought is was so cute, and a warm-hearted welcome to see the hat on Mickey!:goodvibes

In the more urban areas you hardly ever see cowboy hats.

But my DH is from the panhandle, and you better believe you see a lot there!

Oh, I liked the hat for a "We're glad to be here, Texas!". I think it was a cute touch as they sailed in. Sort of like "Texas bound". And even if they left it for the first sailing week or two. But I am glad that it was not a permanent fixture. If the ship only sailed to Texas ports, that might be one thing. (Not that we have many rivers or ports capable of cruise ship sailing.) Since the ship sails everywhere and will hopefully be carrying people other than Texans, I am glad that it didn't stay for the entire run out of Galveston. I find it hard to believe, but I have to accept that not everyone likes Texas!

My husband is from Lubbock. I see a lot of cowboy hats when we go to visit his family. I'm not saying that people don't wear them, but the movies and TV shows make is seem like everyone in the state wears them all the time. When we were in Europe and said we were from Dallas, the next question was "Where is your hat?" We learned that question in many languages because the hands always went to their heads along with it! :) They always looked disappointed when we shattered their illusion by telling them that not everyone wears cowboy hats.

Sorry, I thought it was a nice touch as she entered a new port for the "official" first time. Yes, some of us remember the emergency use of the port of Galveston many years ago, but there was no time for anything to happen then!

Sorry if it was offensive to some Texans--that certainly wasn't intended!

Wasn't offensive to this 3rd-generation Texan! I see plenty of hats around. Most people I talk to who don't have a hat are usually transplanted Texans. What's next -- not owning and wearing boots??? We'll leave that to the yankees, thanks. :thumbsup2

I was truly hoping Disney would borrow the giant longhorns from Voyager's maiden Texas cruise to put on the front of the Magic for a while. That would have been awesome. But I *am* very very happy that they are going to feature Messina Hof wines aboard Magic for the Texas cruises! Good stuff!!

Howdy!
As an Aggie, I'm good without the Longhorns. I didn't own a Stetson, but my college roommate was an equine sciences major (horse managing) and I worked with the ostriches and white tail deer at the wildlife and exotic animal center on campus.
I don't own boots, but better than half the girls I saw at the last Gameday in Kyle field wore cutoffs or mini skirts and boots.
I've lived in Richardson, Plano, College Station, Sweetwater, Spring and the Woodlands Texas and y'all, with this many people its hard to stereotype what any one Texan might like or do or wear.
I say welcome and stay a while. So long as y'all want to stay, I'll keep booking out of Galveston.

P.S. I'm vegan. So I'm not entirely stereotypically an Aggie.

I don't think anyone here found it offensive. And while I'm not sorry the hat didn't stay for months on end, I wasn't offended by it. More like amused at the catering to the stereotypical Texan. And I think it was a cute idea and definitely great for marketing their new port which also markets Texas. I'm actually a little surprised that it didn't last the entire first cruise or at least a few days. That seems like a lot of effort put into something for just a day or two. But then again, Disney never does anything by halves!

It's not just for the day. The pictures will be used by the marketing, I'm sure for everytime they advertise the Texas cruises, even in future years.

As a Texan, who doesn't wear hats, I thought it was a great idea! I loved it. I think TEXAS! When I see it. Two thumbs up!
