Cousins take on the World - Day 6 - The day Christmas came early
Cast of Characters:
Laura (me) - age 34 (sister to Am and and cousin to Annmarie)
Annmarie - age 32 (cousin to Laura and Am)
Annmarie - age 38 (sister to Laura and cousin to Annmarie - to avoid confusion will be called Am)
Sorry for the long delay - the holidays, the job and real life got in the way.
Please be sure to go back a few pages and catch up on our first 5 days.
We got an early start on Thursday - we had plans for an early dinner and then over to the Magic Kingdom for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. We had a quick breakfast at Roaring Forks and the hopped a bus to MGM. As usual, we ran right over to The Tower of Terror. Now, as much as Annmarie and I love TOT, Am is a big baby and hates to go on. Of course, we make her feel guilty and she goes on begrudgingly. There was no wait at all and we got right in. (Front row - of course). It was a great sequence, but the best part is Am's reaction. She starts squealing and screaming from the second the doors closed. (Some of our fellow passengers were shouting at her to Shut Up throughout the ride). During the drops, she plants her head firmly on my shoulder and holds on to me and Annmarie for dear life. The picture came out great.
After that, Am and I headed over to RNRC. Annmarie sat this one out, as she rode it the other day and filled her quota for the trip. It was great. After that, it was back to TOT. There was no wait, so we rode it twice. We actually convinced AM to open her eyes and raise her arms. It was quite an accomplishment!! We made our way over to the Great Movie Ride. The wait was under 10 minutes. We got the gangster scene.
After GMR, we got a quick lunch at the Backlot Express. We walked over to One Man's Dream and then to Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Play It. I managed to get into the top ten!! Thank God I didn't make it into the hotseat, I don't think I'd be able to get into that chair - it's too high.
We got in line for Sounds Dangerous after WWTBAMPI. We had about 12 minutes until the doors opened, and we had the bright idea to run and get a FP for me and Am for RNRC. I elected to be the sprinter - needless to say, I didn't make it. By the time I returned to Sounds Dangerous, Annmarie and Am had already been seated and they weren't letting anybody else in. Oh well, I grabbed a seat on a nearby bench and people-watched for a while.
Once Sounds Dangerous let out, we actually decided not to ride RNRC after all. It was getting kind of late, and we had an early PS for Boatwright's. We made our way back to the hotel, and got ready for dinner. Because we'd been having bad luck with the busses, we decided to take a cab over to the Port Orleans. When we went to get a cab, one of the WL workers offered to drive us over in the WL truck. The driver was very nice and pointed out a deer in the woods while we were driving.
We had a nice dinner at Boatwrights. It was empty, so our waiter really doted on us. After that, we hopped on a (very packed) bus and made our way to the Magic Kingdom. Main Street looked amazing. Between the lights and the balloons and the "snow" - it was just gorgeous. We headed over to Adventureland and had our pictures taken. (All decked out with our matching shirts and festive Christmas hats
)
We rode POC and then made our way over to Splash Mountain. I had picked up some ponchos at the dollar store before we came and we each put them on. We got a log to ourselves - it was great. You should see the picture. We each are in our own row, bundled up (it was freezing) in our ponchos. You can barely see our faces. After that, we rode BTMRR. There were absolutely NO lines at all. We made our way over to HM and then stopped for some free hot chocolate and cookies.
We started walking towards Tomorrowland to get a seat for Mickey's Twas the Night Before Christmas. "Wishes" was just about to begin. I'll be honest, Annmarie and I had always said, "What's the big deal - its just fireworks" -- well, were we wrong. It was amazing. I recommend that everybody see it if possible. After Wishes, we saw Mickey's Twas the Night Before Christmas. It was great.
Note - here is the problem with writing a trip report six weeks after the fact. My notes don't make sense anymore. I have a little note after Mickey's Twas the Night Before Christmas that says, "Am hot". Now, I don't know what that means. It was bitter cold that night, so it has nothing to do with the temperature. We all had just gotten hot chocolate, so that's not it. Oh well.
After that, we went on Carousel of Progress. Am hadn't ridden that in years. She wasn't all that impressed by it, and clearly did not appreciate the fact that Annmarie and I sang along
We rode Buzz Lightyear after that. My score was 60,190, Am got 16,900 and Annmarie got 4,100. (It turns out that Annmarie's gun didn't activate until 3/4 of the way through the ride. )
Hey wait, I get it. "Am hot" means "Annmarie got a hot dog from Casey's to eat while watching the parade" - now it makes sense. We got a great spot for the parade, but lost it when I pre-maturely thought the parade was over. We watched the rest of the parade from a "not so bad" spot, and then ran over to Fantasyland once it was over. In Fantasyland, we rode Peter Pan, Pooh, Snow White and saw Mickey's Philharmagic again. Am loved it. After that, we tried to get on It's a Small World, but it was closed.
We made our way down Main Street (stopping in a few stores on the way out) and jumped on the boat back to the Wilderness Lodge to get some sleep.
Overall Thoughts -
MVMPC was absolutely amazing. Worth every penny.
If you've never eaten at Boatwrights, try to work it into your next trip.
Stay tuned for the next installment. I promise you won't have to wait too long.
