we are not massage people...i've only gotten a massage for a total of 2 times! (in my life!) for one of my girlfriend's wedding & another for a girls' night out...& and i've enjoyed it both occasions...but still feel a bit "hesitant" to go...it's just not something i'd go & do on my own...but for a special occasion, with a group, ok.

having said that...

i'm thinking of having a massage at the spa...ran the idea of a couples massage by my DH, and he's open to the idea...

now, can someone explain what that entails? is it really romantic? or not? no big deal? something we'd enjoy as a couple? or are we just "laying there", next to each other? oh, and do we have 2 massage therapists working on each of us? for those who's experienced it, please enlighten me! i'd really appreciate all your honesty here...since i really don't know what i might be getting myself into...

thank you in advance!! :flower:

I have done the couples massage. You are lying on a separate table next to your companion. 2 separate therapists each working on a person. You're face down on a table so, all you can see is the floor...if you're looking for something romantic, I wouldn't say this is it. Now, don't get me wrong the massages are great!!! But if you want something where you can share some time with a spouse, you might want to check out the Surial Bath. You and spouse (or whom-ever you may choose) are in a room that has steam, different types of muds etc to apply to each other, a bench type area and a shower. You may use your time however you wish LOL!. My husband and I did this one together on our first cruise. Just my opinions...hope it helps :)

Hugs,

We did the couples massage on our cruise...and again...I wouldn't say its romantic...like the previous poster noted...your just in the room together (a small room I might add) getting a massage at the same time. I had been going to a massage therapist for some time priror to our trip..and wouldn't rate it any better than what I got back at home...but it was DH first time...so for him I think it was nice to be together.

If you are considering the couples massage...you may want to check into the REAS package...where you'll get the couples massage or couples spa taster...along with dinner at Palo, romantic breakfast in bed one morning (with champagine)...and a nice champagine gift basket on the first day....oh and a romantic turn down service one night with rose petals tossed around your stateroom. Plus your able to book your spa reservations and Palo reservations prior to your cruise...not to mention put in a request for your dinner rotation..and book Palo brunch and high tea ....all prior to getting on the ship.

Have been thinking of this but like the previous writer am hesitant and really do not want the massage although my husband would love it suffering from severe back problems. You mention the Spa taster and suriel session. Can this be for more than a couple as we have our two adult daughers and it could be fun. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Great...now THATS a picture I will have to get OUT of my head.....I dont think you would want to do the suriel with your daughters...at least I HOPE you wouldn't LOL....Barbs site has a review of the suriel bath on it you could go read! The tasters is a mini facial and a mini massage...its nice but getting it alone is part of the relaxation of it for me...I end up asleeep or half asleep by the time its over! There is no possible way that 4 people could be in that room getting massages at once, it is tight with just the couples massage and the 2 techs.

Like AprilGal said - you should read the "reviews" of the Suriel (now call something like Rasul) there's a "G" rated and a "PG" version of the report. (the site is www.Castaway .com ;) and click on "The Spa"

That being said, you and your daughters might enjoy the time together (it's set up for 1, 2 or 3  ) people

thanx everyone! we're not looking for the REAS package, cuz we don't drink much. so we feel that the champaign part would be going to waste...although the breakfast & being allowed to book your spa/palo thing is pretty cool. and i'm still debating about this couples massage thing...but now i have another question...i'm sorry, but i have to ask this...

someone mentioned the rasul thing...do you wear your bathing suit? and play with mud, or are you in there, completely, with just your DH (or DW, or whoever), and no one else...(so you could be naked if you like)

i just honestly don't go to spa often, so i really don't know! again, i apologize for the questions...but i knew all of you would be honest, and tell me. so i could be well informed!

on another note...anyone done the aromatherapy rainforest thing? that's co-ed, right? thus, you need bathing suit, correct? and is that like "using the facilities" after your massage?

the 2 times i've been to a spa, it was all ladies in the main spa area. (william burke, or burke william?) and some of the ladies had nothing on, while others had their bathing suits on. but i just felt more comfortable in my bathing suit, you know after my massages, you get to use the facilities...the hot tub, sauna, aroma shower place, etc.

anyways, thank you for your info! :flower:

I think you could also request a non-alcholic bottle of sparking cider or something along those lines. The Champagine at breakfast is just a glass each..not much...matter of fact we set our in the fridge and totally forgot it there...when we left the ship it was still in there. We ended up sharing our bottle with some new friends on board...If it wasn't for that...I'm sure it's something that we'd still have sitting around...of given to someone else as a gift.

The rainforest room is co-ed and bathing suits are required.

The Rasul room is totally private, just you and your partner. The door is locked from the inside. When your time is up, the attendant gives you a "ten minute warning" knock, and then you unlock the door when you are ready to walk out. It's very private and very fun!

You could wear a swimsuit if you wanted, but it would get trashed. The mud is very, well, muddy!

When you check in, they give you a basket with a robe. You go change in the changing room (different rooms for men and women) and leave your stuff in a locker (you keep the key with you.)

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. We felt REAS was well worth the cost, especially if you are planning on doing a couples massage and Palo anyway.

My DH and I had the couple massage done on Castaway Cay! To me that was romantic! Our cabana was roomy, We did lay on seperate tables and had seperate massage therapists, and it over looked the ocean/beach. Just laying there and hearing the ocean with my DH next to me was so nice. Aftewards we were able to enjoy the adult beach. :love2:

I think the best part about having a couples massage is that you are both so totally relaxed together, at the same time. It's not the massage part that's necessarily romantic, like the above poster's mentioned, you are in the same room but face down and not even able to look at each other. You could talk, if you want, but that kinda takes away from the peacefulness. It's the after massage time you spend together that's the real bonding experience. It's a fabulous peaceful time together. Go back to your room ;), spend some time holding hands on the beach, have a drink and watch the ocean together, just thinking about the memories makes we want to go hug my DH.

thank you so much for all your input!!! i really appreciate it! will relay the info to DH, and decide what we really want to do...again, thank you!

we have 2 little ones, and don't really get much time off to ourselves! and last time we went, we didn't even bother looking into the spa experience, cuz our youngest wasn't old enough for the club, and we had to make reservations for the nursery, etc. and now that they're both old enough to go to the club, we thought we'd at least do something just for us! :flower:
