couples massage for parent and adult child?

Is this going to be looked on as awkward? We are cruising with our grown kids. Wanted to do something special together at the spa. Only way I could figure it out was to book the "couples massage". Has anyone else here done this with someone who is not their significant other and care to share the experience?

I've heard people comment about doing it with adult child or sister-in-law, etc.

Having just done it 2 weeks ago, I would recommend that if you wanted to do a spa thing together that you just both book separate massages at the same time and then can be doing 'the experience' together. You are paying the premium for a romantic environment that you don't need. (Plus, some people might not want to disrobe in front of their children/parent.)

Maybe a manicure/pedicure could be something that is done adjacent to another family member.

The couples massage is actually a few bucks cheaper than the two individuals. Massage is what she wants. I've never done one. We would be shyer with the masseuse than each other... is it naked naked? Or do you get to at least wear undies?

You can wear to your comfort level. We did the full couples choice and had just come out of the hot tub so we took off the wet swimsuits. (The masseuse does a good job of adjusting and tucking the sheet around you as they go to not expose anything.)

Are you the mother or the father? I think a father-daughter combo might get some looks. Mother-daughter less chance of looks. But then again, how many people will know/see it? Basically it is the person checking you in and the masseuses. 3 people you will never see again after the cruise.

I have done a few couple’s massages with my spouse in the past and now I prefer to get my own separately. I spend the whole time with my eyes closed trying to relax and I don’t really see the point in having someone else in the room. I personally don’t find it to be a romantic environment, but that could just be me.

One of my couple’s massages was on DCL and at the end they put my hand in DH’s hand but his hand was completely not moving and it felt really weird. (Our eyes were still closed.) I was like “what is happening??!!” Turns out DH thought the massage therapist was holding his hand and he didn’t want to hold hands with a stranger so he just froze up and didn’t move. Very romantic. Anyways hopefully they will skip the hand holding for a parent child massage lol.

hahaha! oh my that's a great story. I was thinking I wouldn't find it a romantic environment either. I really appreciate you sharing.

My daughter and I did it back in 2011 on Castaway Cay. Nothing at all romantic about it!! But it was hotter than hot and not very comfortable either!! Don't even know if they still do it on the island but we would definitely have it done on the air conditioned boat next time! We both enjoyed it and it wasn't awkward at all.
