Last visit to WDW, I think we used the rental car twice! So I'm not planning on renting a car for the trip this time (8/06). However, we will be doing 2 off-site activities. We have US/IOA passes left over from last trip and will be spending a day there, so best way to get there & back again?
Second, we're going to Tampa for a Devil Ray's game. DH would like to surprise DS with a convertible Mustang for the trip. As far as I can tell, Budget is the the only major carrier that rents them. Now, this gets complicated, there is a Budget office in the Doubletree Hotel near Downtown Disney. Could I walk there from DD and rent the car there? We only want it for Friday 9/1. Then we could either return it there on Saturday OR, if there is no fee for it, return it on Sunday to the airport when we leave. If we can't rent at the Hotel, we'd have to get back to the airport to rent which sounds like a real time consumer!!

Ideas? Advice?

Thanks, Pooch

You could call a cab or use the Mears shuttle to go to USO/IOA. However, I could never bring my self to recommend Mears.

For renting a car, I would call that Budget location and see if they have any suggestions on how you can get there from where you are going to be. I have this very vague recollection that they will send someone over to pick you up. I only looked into Budget briefly over two years ago, so I could be WAY off. You might even be able to get on the Doubletree Bus at one of the parks, but again, not sure. Sometimes, returning a vehicle to a different locations makes it more expensive. You might be able to check the price difference on their website.

Good Luck!

I did just what you are talking about. Took the bus to DTD and walked up Hotel Plaza Blvd. to the Doubletree, where I had previously reserved a car from Budget. Was about about a 15 minute walk. No extra charges to return to MCO, that is what I wanted to do. Got the car day before we left. Then on checkout morning, put luggage in car, went to pool, then off property to late lunch, then to airport. Since then, I have heard that Budget will send someone to pick you up. But the walk didn't hurt me. :rotfl2:
P.S. Hertz rents convertible 'stangs also.

Hey, Owtrbnks thanks for the info. Picking up at the hotel and dropping off at the airport would be perfect.

Budget at the doubletree does have pickup service. You just need to call in advance to schedule. FYI right now budget has a very, very limited number of mustang converts. in the orlando fleet. That could change in the coming months. They have a ton of sebrings right now.

The local budget number is 407 827-6089 Traci is the manager.
