Country Bear Jamboree Song Question

DH and I saw Country Bear Jamboree for the first time earlier this month, and were a little caught off guard at one of the songs. It sounded like they were singing "blood on the saddle, blood on the floor".

If that's NOTwhat they were saying #1) we need to get our hearing checked and #2) you probably think I'm crazy. If that IS what they are singing, can someone please tell me what the rest of the song was about? As you can imagine, we thought it was a little odd, although is was the end of EMH and we were tired.

Thanks in advance for helping us solve this little mystery that has driven us crazy for the last few weeks.

That's the song.

It is an actual C&W song written (and sung in the show) by Tex Ritter, the real-life father of the late John Ritter (Three's Company, 8 Simple Rules)

Tex Ritter - Blood On The Saddle Lyrics

There was blood on the saddle and blood all around
And a great big puddle of blood on the ground

A cowboy lay in it all covered with gore
And he never will ride any broncos no more

Oh, pity the cowboy, all bloody and red
For the bronco fell on him and bashed in his head

There was blood on the saddle and blood all around
And a great big puddle of blood on the ground

OK, just did some google searching (apologies for writing the question before I did that) and here are the actual lyrics:

Big Al: There was blood on the saddle
and blood all around
And a great big puddle
of blood on the ground!
Hehehe

Ok, so we aren't crazy. But what in the HECK does that song have to do with the whole show? Not trying to start anything, at all, I'm just a little caught off guard.

Robo, we were just cross posting -- thanks for convincing me I'm not crazy. :)

HAHAHA I LOVE that song. Every single time I hear it in the show, I start cracking up...it's so incredibly random! Every so often, I start singing it here. Now it's in my head again. :lmao:

Am I going to get flamed if I ask why this is in a Disney show??

No flames here, but I don't see it any more "inappropriate" than having pirates shout out they want the redhead during an auction for brides (who are not willing to be auctioned of) or them getting drunk or the attic bride in HM now becoming a serial killer, etc.... Just thought I'd throw in some perspective there! :thumbsup2

Have you seen it in the show?

Its hysterical!

(Only the first 4 lines are used in the show.)

:) Yes, I"ve seen it -- it does make us laugh, because it is so unexpected, and as said, random.

Point taken with the other things around the world -- I am definitely not a prude, but I am surprised that I've still got a song stuck in my head about blood...definitely weird that it is mixed in there with it's a small world. :)

I don't understand your use of the description "random."

The selection of songs are Country and Western oldies (and a few comedy numbers.)

C&W has a common component of sadness and despair ("The Blues" would be the Rhythm and Blues or Soul music equivalent), and "Blood on the Saddle" is just dark enough to fit the bill... as an example (and "parody" due to Big Al's style of singing) of the depths some of these songs can reach.

Its just a funny bit.

Well then, how about:

Mama, don't whup little Buford
Mama, don't bang on his head
Mama, don't whup little Buford
I think you should shoot him instead.
BANG!

I think the first four off key notes that 'Big Al' strums are the funniest. You almost miss the words you're laughing so hard!

Yes.

That's pure COMEDY and written as a JOKE SONG by Homer and Jethro, a country music comedy team from the 1960's.

They made comedy albums with lots of these kind of songs.

They use a couple of Homer and Jethro song clips in the Country Bears show.

But these are sung in the show by other performers.

"Big Al" is the actual VOICE of Tex Ritter, the composer of "Blood on the Saddle."

Hilarious. :lmao: I love those songs - IMHO all works together beautifully in the CW style as Robo pointed out. Good stuff, needed the laugh. :thumbsup2

i also think the line about those who always turn me on turn me down is a bit ummm un disney like.

ah, how I harken for the days of yesteryear, when we DIDN'T have to worry about political correctness.....(sigh)

Nothing in the show is really un-Disney like. A little suggestive to adults but a long way from being "dirty". It seems that with all the garbage going on in the world, we all could use a little laugh. Blood on the saddle, taken by itself is kind of gruesome, but put in this show, it's presentation and it's location, makes it really funny.:rotfl:

I love this show. I got a new appreciation for it about a year ago when I saw it with my good friend Goofy4Tink. I hadn't seen it in probably10 or 15 years, and it's amazing how not seeing something can make you appreciate it again.

The songs are just so not what you'd expect at Disney World, and that makes it so much fun :) I have been known to sing the Buford song to Goofy4Tink any chance I get :)

Oh yeah...beat me to it!! And now, since Miss TLinden16 saw if a few years ago, and was suitable impressed with said lyrics, she in known to just break into song at really odd times. And now...I have to sit through the whole 'bloody' thing every time I go with her!!!

Could you imagine CB without those hilarious snippets? I'm thinking it wouldn't be half the fun.....

No more PC, please.....I'm PC'd to death! It's ok to laugh about inappropriate stuff. Haven't you ever seen a kid fart? They think it's the funniest thing in the world. Couldn't we use a little more of that in our lives?

Actually, thinking about the incongruity of the aforementioned lyrics and IASW - Can you imagine the Dolls in IASW singing it? :lmao: Now that I'd like to see!

I'm the one who first described it as random. While the other songs aren't PC, they aren't quite the same as Blood on the Saddle, a song that seems to grab attention whenever we see it. It catches people off guard...making it feel "random" because it sort of feels like it breaks whatever pattern was going on (including the pattern of how the songs are sung and played).
