Counter service for children

I am a little confused about what is considered the dessert portion for kids on the dining plan. Most counter services for kids offer an entree, 2 sides and a drink. Choices for the 2 sides usually include applesauce, jello, grapes or carrot sticks. A cookie is also offered as an alternative. My question is, does disney consider the applesauce or jello sides as the dessert, or do kids get to choose a dessert from the dessert menu?

You will probably still be confused when you get home from your trip. In our experience last September what was included in a kids meal or even an adults meal changed from place to place and from CM to CM even in the same place.

The correct answer is sometimes the applesauce is dessert and sometimes your child will get to choose.

Thank you for the reply. With a family of 6, it's easier and quicker to pre-plan what we are going to order instead of making the decision while standing in line. Oh well, I guess we'll pick desserts at the counter.

Anyone else have experience with this? Which counter services offer kids a dessert and which ones consider one of the sides (applesauce & jello) the dessert portion of the meal?

I have to agree with the above poster. We were there May 2007, so the old plan, but the CS didn't change. Even at the SAME CS location (Cosmic Ray's), we got different things each time!! On our very first day, we got a chicken nuggets meal, applesauce, grapes, drink and a dessert (same as adults - we got the chocolate cake). This was great, as our DD was only 2, so she shared with her brother. On our very last day, DS and I went there again. This time, it was a choice of either 2 sides OR 1 side, 1 dessert - and the dessert available was only a pudding cup, not the adult desserts. Not a big deal at all, but an inconsistency.

It really varied everywhere else - some places it was 2 sides + dessert. Some places the choice as above. Some places 2 sides only, no dessert option offered.

I'm a planner, too, so I like to know in advance, but it didn't end up being too big a deal. With 4 kids though....I guess I'd just ask them in advance, if they can get dessert, what to they want? But no promises, LOL

We, too, had the same varying experiences others have noted.

Sometimes you get two sides and are told one of those counts as the dessert, and sometimes you get two sides PLUS a dessert. I know at Pecos Bill's we got the two sides plus dessert but at the awful CS in the American pavillion in Epcot, we did not. I can't remember the others because it was so confusing to me!
